Tis the Season for Battery Failures

Just replaced three bike batteries, FJR, Wing, and Madura. The ones in the Wing and Madura still started the bikes but failed when I load tested them. I put the OEM batteries in the Wing and FJR. Rocky Mountain ATV had the best prices on those two, had them in stock, and shipped them very quickly.

    Side Stand Plate

Did mine some years ago. Started with a disc of 14 ga. mild steel, cut to the outline of the stand bottom and situated so that it wouldn't interfere with the exhaust. Then, with the side stand down to make sure the foot was flat on the ground with the bike leaning on it, tacked the foot to...

    BRP in 1 day

The last gas available on the Parkway was at Doughton Park (mile 240). I gassed up there in 2005, when I went through in 2006, it was gone. Used to be available at the three lodges, Peaks of Otter, Doughton Park, and Pisgah Inn. Been a few years since I've been on Skyline Drive but, when I was...

    BRP in 1 day

Another factor you might consider is the weather. When it's just raining on the lower elevations, the Parkway will likely be up in the clouds (dense fog). I've ridden there when the weather is like that and s slow going.

Why online motorcycle forums (fora?) are dying, so claims this article

Two of the Suzuki forums I used to monitor have gone to Facebook. I don't do Facebook, so I've gotten out of touch with what's going on in those groups.

    Goodmans wrecked in KY

Sorry to hear of your accident; hope you both heal quickly and with no long term problems. I don't like riding on wet pavement because it is so much harder to see the patch of spilled oil or diesel that can cause a loss of traction in a curve. Good luck to both of you and hope you're back riding...

Ray Slocomb, FjRay - Now on second honeymoon with Patti

Terrible news, indeed. Never met Ray, but I always enjoyed reading his posts. Hope the end was quick and he didn't suffer. Rest in peace, Ray.

    Second knee replacement

Had a similar problem with my second knee replacement. Three months after the operation, severe pain and swelling. The surgeon got 45 cc of blood out of the joint, but the relief was only temporary. Vascular doc had to do an angiogram to find the leak and plug it with a coil. All was well until...

    Cars, hurricanes, insurance, and replacements.

Transformer with the loose wire is likely for the doorbell. Good luck to both of you with the remainder of your repairs. Tom

'80 Clutch takeup "play" almost gone? Adjustments avail or replace?

My four bikes all have hydraulic clutches and to get all the air out when bleeding, I've had to bleed at the banjo fitting at the master cylinder as well as at the slave cylinder fitting.
