Great price, BUT I would want to check out the date codes. Pirelli introduced the Angel GT as a replacement for the ST in 2013. I don't know if they stopped making the ST at that time or not. The GT's were supposed to last longer than the ST...

I know, for example, that Michelin has continued to make many tires for years after the "replacements" were introduced.
Don't know about Pirelli but there is no guarantee that these ST's are that old - they might have continued making the ST well after the introduction of the GT...

Totally correct. This does seem like a deal. When I searched for the tire set on amazon, the vendor came up as mass depot. They have the same deal on their website.: https://massdepot.com/PIRELLI-TIRE-ANGEL-ST-Front-Rear-set-120-70-17-180-55-17-
In the past, I have had luck calling a vendor and requesting newer date codes. If the tire is older than a year old, I'd pass.

I agree - the Angel GT II are the current models,. The ST may be quite old stock - and that may be OK with some, but I wouldn't.
The thing is that by ordering by mail you're not going to know, or they're not going to tell you, the actual date codes.
BTW - I've been riding on the Angel GT II A spec and they are an awesome tire.

The post two above yours (#4) says 2020 or newer (with a link) so tire age shouldn't be an issue. It is generally recommended that tires should not be older than six years. Plus or minus a considerable margin depending upon storage conditions.

I never worry about date codes since the tires are typically toast in a year or so. But if you are getting 4-5 years out of a set of tires then I guess I would want the freshest ones I could get.

I didn't notice that short sentence when I was going through the threads. So 2020 is fine, and I'd go to even three years old, but the thing is not every vendor is going to go through their stock to get you a fresh tire. And as someone else commented in here that a date doesn't matter because they're not going to last, it does matter because we don't know where those tires have been stored. So even though you're going to eat that tire up in e~6 months, how that tire is going to behave depending on its condition due to age in those 3~6 months is important - to me.

I rolled a set of these on my ZRX 1200 and at 2500 miles they were DONE
I I would not think they would last on a 200 pound heavier motorcycle. I do have a heavy throttle hand though

I’m still able to get Michelin PR2s (yes PR2s, which I love) and Pirelli Angels on Amazon with date codes as recent as 2 years old, off of vendors on Amazon. The beauty of buying on Amazon is if you get an old date code, just send them back. No problem. No return shipping cost.

I agree Fred. I bought a set of PR2s last winter for just over 200 plus and they worked good.

Hey George, I hope all is well with you and your crew.

Yeah, i never could gell with the PR2 front tires. That swoopy tread pattern always resulted in horrendous buzzing when leaned-in. But those PR2 rears have been treating me well for at least a decade. I love ‘em.

I was really surprised how recent the date codes were on the last two that I bought. That’s why I bought them through Amazon. Return them for any reason. But I kept them.

I’m almost through the first of those two rears. Having other bikes I like to ride helps spread the tire wear out, but creates a constant maintenance cycle in the garage.

The Pirelli Angel I put on has been a buzzer since early on, and it is less than half worn. Oh well. The grip is good, so why worry about a little buzzing noise?

Lots of water under the bridge since we last saw each other. Hope you still get some good ride time in. I’m still thinking about another NERDS event some day in northern VT. I get to ride those roads all the time now, but I still love to share with my FJR friends.

Me too - crappy after about mid-life. Ran a few sets with PR2 rear and Bridgestone fronts (at your recommendation IIRC).

The Roadsmart III rear tires are pretty good for the price. Trying the RS IV next although Dunlop wants quite a bit more for them - supposed to last longer.

Had one set of the Pirelli Angel GT's and won't go back there. Only front tire that caused significant headshake on my '07 and well before the tire was worn out. Premium price but not premium tire, IMHO.

I would be on board with that as well. Haven't been across the border since Covid. Used to get to New England at least two or three times per year - camping and riding.
