strange sound when starting

When I hit the starter button, I hear some little pop n snaps. it sounds like a small rubber band snapping or like sparking sounds, so far she starts, but could it be the solenoid going bad? Never heard this before, now it seems more and more.. any help would be greatly appreciated..

Any more details you can provide? Year, miles or kilometers, any recent work done? Any modifications?

Sure, it's a 2007, with 21,562 miles. No recent work done. only mod "Highway Pegs"

Check the Cam Chain Tensioner for a green dot. Old CCTs will not have the green dot; they are known to be weak and may fail completely. Change out an old CCT soonest. I would not ride the FJR with an old CCT there. You do not need to dis-assemble anything to check, but a strong light and an inspection mirror will help. Pix:

Once it starts, do the noises continue or is it only while starting? Cam chain tensioner noise is worst when the engine is cold and is more on the right side of the engine. Typically disappears as the engine warms up. It is usually described as "marbles in a can" or like a cold diesel motor. If the noise is the CCT, it is important to get it replaced ASAP, as mentioned above.

If the noise is only while trying to start, it could be electrical. Check that the battery terminals are tight. Check out the starter solenoid and starter motor. Any ozone smell from electrical arcing?

Has your ignition switch been replaced? There was a recall for it that included the 2007 model year.

that sounds more like a starter clutch issue......

The sounds stops when she starts. It sounds electrical to me. Kinda like she's arching or grounding. No smoke or smell of any kind. I'm gonna check the relay tomorrow., might just order one for shits n giggles., will keep you posted. Oh! and Yeah the recall on the switch was done years ago. Still mad they couldn't rekey the new switch., ever since I have two keys one for everything, and one for the ignition switch...
