After much research, it seems that (gulp) drilling the tank and installing bulkhead fitting is the method of choice.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there a preferred make/model/type of bulkhead fitting?

My obvious concern is making sure that the seal between the fitting and tank is permanent and leak-proof…wondering about how best to ensure the integrity of the seal.

Thanks to all for your input and guidance,
JA

As a fully experienced bulkhead fitting installer (I did one), it is really not that difficult. I.e., if I did it, you can do it. I can’t remember what brand fitting I used, but can look it up if you proceed. I probably used permatex liquid gasket material to seal it. No leaks.
Also, the link to the process should answer your questions.

thanks owsley, I’d be interested to know what brand/model fitting you used since you also had a ‘13 FJR

Well, I did it on an ‘07 that I don’t own anymore. I am currently experimenting with the tank vent line method, may have to drill this one, maybe.
If you would PM me with your email, I can send you some pictures of what I used. Again, lots of resources and procedures on here to use.
