FJR1300 To Be Retired

I have been to quite a few Yamaha dealers during my cross country trip to Minnesota a few days ago asking them about FJR’s. These bikes are unicorns! Dealers have told me that can’t get them and there was dealer in MInnesota that told me a guy came up from Kansas City last year to get the one he had in stock.

Ridiculous. I was told it was not a chip shortage. Sounds like component pieces are not coming together from a production standpoint. Hang on to the bike you have like sweet death.
 
There’s been no plausible indication that they’re discontinuing it, at least in our market. But any sizeable reduction in sales (from the EU or other regions) makes me concerned as to how it might affect profitability and the longevity of the model.

Luckily, I have a 2022, so I should be good for a bit.
Did you get the saddle bags for your 2022? If so how long did it take? Bought mine end of Jan and today Yam told me May.

I had the same experience in California in January. Many dealers told me that they could only get a handful of 2022s, and no outlook yet for 2023. I’m still waiting for saddlebags on my 2022, purchased end of Jan.
 
Mine came in sooner than expected. But it still took a few months. I used Yamaha city cases in the mean time.

This is the replacement for the FJR? Chain drive, cheap panniers, ugly as sin? Come on Yamaha, build a solid, distance ready sport tourer please? I may have to head to BMW at this rate.
I have to admit I like the new bike. I think it’s great for an every day play or medium range bike. My FJ09 is a 2015 model with upgraded suspension and I wish I had had the bells and whistles this new one has.

I was really wishing they would have decided to upgrade the dash and put the newer technology they put on the tracer9 gt+ on the FJR. I also wouldn’t mind an updated frame, and if they would solve the low fuel economy, put in a modified R1 motor. They have to do something to modernize the bike just to be marketable. I think it’s fantastic and have two but you have to stay with the times.
 
Looks like they'll be some options to spend your money on. Noticed the crash bars and hand guards. Like the lights in the top box. Don't like the bar; brake fluid cup looks cheesy. No thanks also to adaptive cruise control or braking for that matter.

And I detest computer generated voice-overs.
 
All those electronics sound nice..... until something breaks. I don't like the looks, but worse is the fact that it has chain drive. I suppose it is a nice machine for people who want that style of motorcycle, but it is not close to a replacement for the FJR without shaft drive.

Edit: I just found a hp chart and it looks like the 2022 model tops out at a little over 100 hp and 62 ftlb of torque. Yamaha says that the engine has not changed from 2022. I would not expect this GT9+ to perform as well as the FJR.

"Long abandoned FJR" is not very compassionate (or accurate) after 20+ years of running an award winning platform.

Based on all the newer technology on the Tracer ... I think ACC sounds like alot of BSS!
 
I like a lot about the Tracer, but I like having plenty of motor and a long range. Less than 250 miles of usable range before hitting reserve rules out a lot of motorcycles for me. This article makes me think there will be a 2023 FJR but not a 2024. I may go for a new FJR. With luck, it and I will wear it out at the same time.
