Anyone in Upstate NY area? ...with an aftermarket seat?

I have a Russell Day Long on my '05. I was able to ride 1000 mile days on the stock seat, but did get sore and tired. When a used RDL became available I bought it. It was not custom made for my butt, but I took the cover off the seat and adjusted the foam several times until I was satisfied...

    E15 / Unleaded 88 in 2008 FJR1300

I know nothing about the chemistry and reactions of the various fuels, but I do read the manual when I buy a piece of equipment and follow what it says in order to protect my investment. That said, most of my small engines with carburetors get corn free high octane gas because it works well and...

    RIP ionbeam - 10/7/23

Another FJR riding friend gone. So sad to hear this. I have not been paying attention and did not know that he was sick. The older I get the more friends I lose, and each time I hear about one I feel the loss. I don't know who I am going to ask next time I have a difficult technical question...

    FJR1300 To Be Retired

My Tundra is a 2019, and I do like the ACC on it. I still use the accelerator at times to close the gap in front of me when the traffic is heavy. I think it is very handy to use the ACC to slow me down when I catch up to a vehicle in the same lane. I look forward to the day, if it ever happens...

    FJR1300 To Be Retired

All those electronics sound nice..... until something breaks. I don't like the looks, but worse is the fact that it has chain drive. I suppose it is a nice machine for people who want that style of motorcycle, but it is not close to a replacement for the FJR without shaft drive. Edit: I just...

    Headlight Modulator suggestions

FWIW, I use a Kisan modulator. It is legal in all 50 states and Canada. As stated above, it is annoying if you have it on and are following other vehicles, but it only modulates when you have your high beams on during the daylight so you can easily turn it off during the day by switching your...

Rodents !! How to get rid of them

Mice need to get water every day, so they leave the nest daily. They navigate primarily by scent. Some strong peppermint scent usually works to confuse them so they can't find their trails and causes them to move on. Also, they can't regurgitate. A ring of lime around your vehicle will cause...

Is there an easy heat fix for the 05?

Something else I have done is to slip a length of half inch pipe insulation onto the top of the fairing between the fairing and the tank on both sides. It doesn't help cool down the tank but it does keep some of the hot air off of the rider.

Is there an easy heat fix for the 05?

The instructions for the Cromeit heat fix that LauraM placed on Facebook can be found here: FJR1300 first Gen heat fix You have to be a Facebook user and you have to join the FJR1300 Enthusiasts page in order to see it.

Is there an easy heat fix for the 05?

The heat shield is spelled "Cromeit". I googled it and found a lot of references to it, but the instructions seem to be lost in the internet ether. The instructions included a template that you could print and use to mark the sheet metal for cutting, so perhaps someone still has a printout of...

    BRP in 1 day

I rode the entire BRP in well under 15 hours. I was with Thingfish who used to participate on this forum. We both had ridden the BRP several times before in tourist mode so we were not interested in stopping for pictures. We were traveling at well over the speed limit most of the time and did...

Gen II Speed Wobbles & Instability (really bad) - Tires?

Some people have noticed a wobble at speed when using a tail trunk, especially a big one or heavily loaded one. In your case I would think it is more likely the tire you have chosen. Although your FJR will not perform like a full out sport bike, it will hold it's own on the street with tires...

    2022 knocked over

Nope. NY and NJ both require helmets and insurance for all riders regardless of age.

    2022 knocked over

I switched to Geico about 10 years ago. They have a reputation for being very difficult to deal with when you file a claim, but the price was the lowest I could find at the time. Well, earlier this year I bought a new vehicle for my wife and decided to look around for prices for insurance. I...

Motor oil. fork oil, coolant, or brake fluid?

    Clutch Slipping!?

Well, since the oil you are using is motorcycle specific, and the hydraulic clutch system seems OK, then you are going to have to remove the clutch and see what the components look like. If they are worn then replacement is the only option. If they look good then a clean and soak may solve the...

    Clutch Slipping!?

C&C has the answer. Car oils have additives which do not play well with the wet clutch in your motorcycle. If you drain out the Mobil 1 and switch in something more motorcycle friendly you should see a difference, but it may take more than one change of oil. Personally, I have always used...

How far would you ride to grab lunch round trip?

Like many others who ride an FJR, I have ridden many, many miles to meet with other FJR riders for a meal. I suppose the only limit was how much time I had and who else was there. It was always a round trip because I always ended up back home eventually. Since you mention lunch, I would think...

    2005 FJR

I have a Wilbers rear shock and Wilbers springs in the fork of my '05. The shock with heavier than stock spring made a big difference and the fork springs also helped. Rather than spending the money on cartridges I experimented with a few different viscosities of fork oil to find the setup that...

    Single pin battery tender

You can always add the SAE connector to your battery so you can use the standard Battery Tender connector. The one with the rings that comes with a Battery Tender and already has an inline fuse is what I use. You can make up cables with SAE on one end and whatever you need on the other end. I...
