    2008 FJR-AE Starting Anomaly

I'm a horrible person I know, but I left my 2008 FJR-AE sit for the last seven months. All I've done to it is periodically trickle charge the battery. Right now the battery idle voltage is 12.8, the voltage when attempting to start it ~10 volts. Using a booster pack doesn't help. I don't think...

dct. vs AE Is it worth the new technolgy.

Everyone talks about how nice the AE is in traffic, but there is a place where the AE is not only more civilized, but just better than ordinary FJRs: Twisty roads Go down the twisties with an AE and you will realize why Formula One drivers switched to paddle shifters. Perfect 300ms shifts...

    FJR in curves and twisties..?

I would not place the FJR near the top of the flickable list, but I would say that twisties is where the AE model really shine.

    dropped my new fjr!

I dropped my FJR with 3 miles on the odo. At my first gas stop. The FJR is a big step up from a Ninja 250. I gassed up, got on the bike, and dropped my glove. On a Ninja 250 you can lean over and pick up your glove. You can do that in an FJR also, but the bike will tip over and impact the...

FJRForum Official 2017 Iron Butt Rally Tracking/Analysis Thread

Assume that Gen 1 has a slightly higher top speed and slight more acceleration than Gen 2, and Gen 2 has a slightly higher top speed and slight more acceleration than Gen 3. How could this tiny difference make a difference in an 11,000 mile rally conducted on public roads? Seriously.

I did an SS1000 on my, but mine wouldn't have held up for 11 more! Also, I needed a sheepskin gel pad. After 200 miles I was literally screaming when I used the stock seat.

There's a rider in Terlingua Texas right now, and it looks like another behind him. I wonder if the famous goat is a bonus?

    "New" 2009 AE Questions

Do what I did when I bought my leftover. Get the VIN. Call Yamaha corporate customer service with the VIN. They will tell you that status of the warranty. Mine was a 'mechanical warranty', same as the regular one except for bodywork issues. Call D&S with the VIN also and ask if they could...

    Time to come clean

That sucks, but it is great you're making the most of a bad situation. What kind of gear were you wearing?

Riding jackets, which do you recommend?

I've crashed tested my Motoport jacket and pants twice now, and never had a scratch. Motoport kevlar with the quad pads is the closest thing to armour you will find. Aerostitch feels like tissue paper by comparison. The bad news is that unless you have a standard rack size you may never get...

    Texas Registration of a D & H - bought FJR

I purchased my 2008AE in late 2009 from a dealer in Oklahoma who was basically giving them away. My local dealer would not budge off of list price. I rode it back to Texas and registered it without issue. I think I had a state inspection done before I went to the county office to get my...

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

Back in 2010 my close friend Craig and I spent 3 days exploring West Texas, him on his ST, me on my FJR. Craig and I were both navs in the Air Force. He was seriously injured in the crash of his F-4, it tore up his back. Shortly after this image was taken he had to give up riding for more...

    Pissed at Progressive

USAA doesn't insure motorcycles, they farm that out to Progressive. I switched from Geico to Progressive two years ago, because Progressive under bid Geico for the same basic coverages. I had one claim with Geico and they were great, but I guess they want to make that up. I think next renewal...

    New Knees?

I had a total left knee replacement done a little over two years ago. TLDR: It's still 'healing' up, I was miserable for about a month, I'd do it again. Both my knees were pretty bad. I don't think as bad as yours, but pretty bad. Twenty years of running away from the USAF fat boy program...

I am pretty sure that the SPOT trackers have basically 1 meter accuracy at least within the United States. This is because they use The FAA GPS augmentation satellites. In my experience when I send an OK message from spot from a parking lot it identifies my exact parking slot.

It was pretty disappointing to read that a fan crashed while trying to intercept a rally rider. I really enjoy following the SPOT tracks, and that's just the kind of thing that could get them taken down.

I did my first SS1000 on my Ninja 250. It's really a good LD bike, very comfortable. I do have only a 29" inseam, so I had that going for me. I did wear out the cam chain tensioner during that run, that's a kind of weak link in that otherwise excellent motor.
