    North SF Bay dealer recommendation?

I'm new to the San Fran. North Bay, specifically Santa Rosa. I'm trying to find a Yamaha dealer I can trust for future work. Any North Bay FJR owners who know of, and can recommend a Sonoma Co. dealer? For years I lived in SF and had a great FJR whisperer named Gail at Mission Motorcycles...

Replace/fix broken saddle bag lock tab ?

Just discovered a broken plastic lock tab on one of my '08 bags. That's the small "L" shaped tab that the locks' pivoting metal piece sits behind when engaged by your key. Never paid much attention before, but it's surprisingly insubstantial. The tab is part of, and rises up from a plastic...

Ice Roads film on bikes !

Just came across this website with incredible film of adventure ride in winter through Canada up to the Arc. Cir. and back. Amazing professinal quality footage. 30 below riding !!!! Wildlife galore. Set the video res. to 720 and use Full Screen. You won't be able to tear yourself away...

    Calling all Audio Techs !!

So I'm about to pull the trigger on a bike intercom. Either the Sena SMH10 or the Scala G4. Both new. Both high marks on WebBikeWorld reviews. Problem is, the wife and I are real picky about our music and don't want to even bother with all this unless we can use our great ER6 earphones. For...

    Weird Front Tire Phenom

This has been puzzling me for a while, so I thought I'd see if anyone else experiences this. Got an Avon Storm on the front of my '08. Tire has 3K on it, bike around 10K. Replaced the orig. BT 021 on the front, (bizarre raised center strip wear-pattern). But I'm sticking with the BT 021 rear...

    Raising front end

OK, so #1, I'm cheap and don't want to pop for a Pit Bull stand needlessly. #2 thanks to a certain pillion who shall remain anonymous, but who's initials are Little Wifey, I've got very little extra space in the garage. Given that, I'm wondering if it's OK to put a jack and wooden plank under...

    Baby's New Cloths

I got the bike back from Underground Colors here in San Francisco nearly a month ago, but hadn't taken a decent photo yet to publish until this weekend, when I was up in Napa Valley. Pete the Painter at Underground did a great job. I've always liked the bold stripe stuff that BMW was using on...

    One more Stebel horn option

So first I tried installing the Stebel as one piece on the existing right horn bracket of my Gen II. I know several folks claim you can get sufficient clearance if done right, but I can't begin to imagine how. Then I split the horn into the pump and the trumpet, connected by a run of tubing...

    The 2009 clutch

So it's known that the 09 has a easier clutch. Some have theorized that they just went back to the Gen I clutch slave cylinder, (which I swapped on my '08 to some small improvement). I tried the new clutch on an 09 at the MC show this weekend, and it seemed even easier that the Gen I I'm...

    Pelican TopCase

So I got my ’08 FJR in late Spring and spent a good 6 weeks adding multiple farkles, most of which I got advice and inspiration from on this forum. I can’t tell you what a great resource you all are. As good or better than the great online community for BMW’s, which I accessed for the previous...

    Clutch drag-sorry

I know this has been visited again and again, but I have a slightly different question. First let me say that the clutch effort and engagement point have come to be the only seriously bothersome issues for me on my new 08. I love the bike otherwise - though I wish it could go on a diet. I...

    Delrin sliders loosening up

First thing I added to my 08 was the Delrin sliders. Installed per instructions - torque Left, then Right. They suggested 29 ft/lbs but my shop manual says 34, so I torqued to that. But after long rides I check them and they've loosened up. Anyone else with this problem? Chris

    Fork oil changing-anyone tried this?

OK, 14 years with BMW K-bikes spoiled me in the fork oil change department I guess. But I don't understand why every manufacturer doesn't just install little set-screw fork bleeders at the end of the forks along with fork caps that have a small refill plug? Is that too much to ask? It made...

Oxford Heaterz grips - good service + caution

So one of the first additions for my new 08 FJR was heated grips. Read good things about the Oxford Heaterz that are sold by White Horse Press and others, so I got a pair. Only $80. Seemed well made. Controller is a little ungainly but offers 4 settings. Great. Went to put them on 3 weeks...
