Northern CA Adventuring - Pixs Posted

Hi Alan! Sorry I'm so late to respond, just seeing this post today. You're very near the Zip household now, though, if you're in Tahoe, and it'd be great to see you. Feel free to drop by for a visit, or even to stay the night if you'd like. We're in Rocklin, just off of 80. We have a fine...

    Five Years Gone By...

Hello, New England FJR Friends, Great ride report, Fred, with a deeply respectful reason. Chris, we met once or twice on rides, and I still think of you and your son often. It's been some time since I was on the forum, but thought of you again when seeing Jordan's story as told by Gen. John...

    Ebbetts Pass Ride

Wish I could hit this with you guys... Just checked, and remembered that the Mrs. is out of town all weekend. No sidecar, cannot fit two kids on the FJR. Have a great ride, guys.

    Any experience with SIPs homes?

Auburn, thanks again for the thorough reply. Can't wait to see the rest of the story. A couple of questions: The timber framing looks fantastic! I wish we could afford that, though we're looking to build more a farm style house rather than a timber frame. Did you choose this solely for the...

    Any experience with SIPs homes?

Auburn, can't wait to see more of your story. Fantastic! So much to learn, even in your first message! Looking forward to other photos. Just wondering, though; your clean-up contractors look a little young! ;-)

    Any experience with SIPs homes?

I've come to respect the wisdom of so many of you here on so many things, and wondered if any of you had any experience with building using structural insulated panels, otherwise known as SIPs. We've recently moved back to Northern California, and we're deeply frustrated in not finding the home...

    Mt. Hamilton

Dang, Tom. One extra day of notice, and I'd have done this with you. Was thinking of taking the day off and riding today, but now committed at work. Have a great ride!

How to convince the Wife to ride..........

I really miss having my wife along when I ride. I know she would enjoy it; the scenery and my other riding friends in particular (all of you!). But she's never been on my bike. And I've never lobbied. We, too, have young children; 5 and 7. There is some risk with us riding together, and I...

    Quincy Oct 15th

Well, the day started calmly enough... with lots of cool people, cool bikes... Next thing I know (some hours later...), I come upon a bunch of those people and bikes on the side of the road; most on the right, just one awkwardly on the left: Doug's not really smiling or laughing there...

Had a total blast, and a great time meeting you all. Doug, thank you for setting up the ride and leading the way. Terrific route! Rich, thanks for showing me the far better way home. Much better than staying on 49 back to 80, which I've done way too many times. See you all next time!

Thanks for the advice! Another great reason to get the local knowledge from all of you. I have no interest in dual-sport roads with the FJR! Looking forward to the ride!

Ok, friends, I'm confirmed in, and I am psyched! Even though I've just returned from a 10-day business trip, Mrs. Zip was cool with me going. (She's awesome.) I'll seeya at Chevron at 9. James, here's Quincy. The whole area is beautiful. I spent a lot of time up there climbing and rafting the...

    Quincy Oct 15th

I'm going to put this on my calendar and seriously consider. I think I could make a long day ride of it, which would be better for me. Looks like a fun 3 hours to Quincy from my place via La Porte.. Might make a loop of it by coming south on 89 to 49 unless someone recommends a better route.

Free GPX editor software, based on Google Earth

It's interesting, and very responsive. But I wonder if there's a "Snap to roads" feature? I recognize it's designed for trail riding, but this roads thing my be useful. (Google Earth has paths, but they don't snap to. Google maps snaps to, but it's slow and painful to draw a route.) Thanks for...

Covered Bridges of Southern NH 2011

It's been terrible seeing the news and some of these wonderful old bridges washed away. Hope all of you are safe and well, and that your ride will still happen if roads safely permit.

    Thank you!

New England Friends, My wife said it eloquently Sunday: "Your motorcycle buddies are awesome." I received your package upon my return Sunday evening to my great surprise, and wow... moved, overwhelmed and blown away. Loved the whole print, the caricature, and most of all, your sentiment and...

    brakeaway cruise control

Looks very nice, and it appears to be made well, and I'm sure it's costy to manufacture. But I would never buy another. As suggested, it's fickle, hard to adjust to get it just right, and installation was painstaking. Also, it's expensive, especially when compared to alternatives. I've had to...

    Go Cruise Throttle Control

Just ordered one myself as well. The BrakeAway's been annoying, expensive and overly complex. Going to give this a try.
