    FJR Forum Decal design

Probably as appropriate a place as any for my final post. My FJR days are ended. Basically gave-away my last of four FJRs to Beachy's son several months ago. It's a bittersweet end to 15-years and over 350,000 FJR miles. I even traded in the Ducati and bought a new 2022 Tracer 9 GT. Hoping...

Anyone installed Rostra Cruise Control on Gen-II

Thinking about adding cruise to the old '07. Probably not willing to fork out $1,200 on MC Cruise. That's more than the KBB value of the bike! Spotted Rostra electronic/servo Universal for roughly $300 with a controller switch. Anybody already done it?

Are we witnessing the end of motorcycling?

Look at my avatar. That's my (now) 26-year old oldest daughter on the back. She has always been "good for whatever" I want to dial up. Most people are appalled at the level of risk she's willing to take and I'm willing to share with her. However, she's the first to tell you that she fears going...

    2016 Premature Paint Wear

I've had enough problems with "premature" things in my life. The 2016 Blue may be the same color as 2006 Blue, but the paint on my particular bike has been and continues to be noticeably "soft" and showing multiple locations of premature wear from abrasion. So much so that my 2007 with 160k...

2014 Coolant Leak - Up High

Geeesh, Carver you still alive dude!? I'm heading west again this June. Let's meet in Colorado and put silicone dielectric grease on our hoses. You first!!!

    TPS readout

I only get upset when TPS won't reach 100. 99 is a real bummer and means somebody else has one more than you when they WOT. Seriously, anything above 100 is clipped to 100 by the ECU. 97-106 means the TPS is working normally in the upper range and you are G2G.

    ABS Trouble

This problem as you describe it sounds very concerning to me. Because my gut says there is a side-play or alignment problem. The slight pressure of rear brake only is causing a shift of rear wheel or rear brake components to induce a sensor variation. I would check ALL the rear axle components...

    Wide Open Throttle question

    1. Air Filter 2. My bet is you still have the stock PAIR system installed. One or more of the reed valves is carboned open or carboned stuck shut. Remove all that PAIR crap, cap it with a set of the PAIR plates made by somebody on here. Go hug a tree and apologize for your renewed environmental...

    Removing the Relay Arm

I recommend using what you refer to as a "straight bolt". At least that's what has always worked for me. Don't bother with zerk fittings. Use new bearings, bushings and seals, and a high-quality waterproof grease (I prefer Maxima). When you get the chance, pick up a spare relay arm casting and...

    Valve adjustment

Hi Fred! I disagree with your valve chain comment. At roughly 65k miles the typical FJR valve chain will have enough tolerance to induce a 1.5 to 2.0 degree shift in timing between the intake and exhaust cams. Remember that the chain PULLS from exhaust cam back to intake cam. The resulting...

    ES Suspension

I don't ride much anymore, well, not on one bike. You guys will have to tell me all about the ES mileage woes before I get anywhere close to my first fork oil change. I'll make it a point to check back at the end of summer.

    PC - V for FJR Gen 1 - 2004 model - Is it worth?

TBS won't affect high-rpm performance, it's strictly for trimming low-rpm/idle. But between the two posts above you have a shopping list.

    PC - V for FJR Gen 1 - 2004 model - Is it worth?

NO If you rode a Gen-II and thought the power curve was smoother than your 2004, you have something very wrong with your 2004. Every year model became progressively worse for jerky throttle all the way to 2007, where it peaked (or sucked the most). Plugs? Carbon buildup in PAIR system...

    Flat spot off idle

Hey Fred, Don't forget you NH residents have more time to piddle in the garage than we southerners do. We're typically too busy riding in the winter. However, I do agree with you that I'd much rather fix it myself than fool with the typical Yami dealer and bureaucracy. And I too purchased...

    Headlight Relay part identification

Thanks Fred. Even the local Yami dealer said... "You'll have to bring me the old one first." I hate removing that damn nose, mostly because ALL my wired comm, accessory power feeds, integrated PTT switch etc. feeds in & out of that section. I shrink-wrapped all the connections and tie it all...

    Headlight Relay part identification

Simple - 2007 Gen-II - I would like to have the replacement Headlight Relay (On/Off) in-hand before I tear it down. Yami schematics and service manuals don't have item numbers that match the parts diagrams. Parts diagrams don't have a description beyond "Relay". Does anyone have the part number...

    Gen 3 ES Suspension

If you have Yamaha ES suspension and you want to replace it with anything different, you've bought the wrong bike. Sell it. The ES suspension has a HUGE range of settings and adaptability to various conditions. It's not perfection in all cases, but if you start with setting the appropriate...

    2007 FJR for $6499?

I have 150,000 miles on my 2007. It's still going strong, but I spent nearly two years working through all the quirks. 2007 is definitely the year that Yamaha doubled-down on all their Gen-II engineering mistakes. My personal advice, find another year model.

CEL, TCS, Err, Hi... all with no key in the ignition?

Or a bus communication error between the Instrument Cluster Unit and the ECU. That's a serial bus communication link. Loose connector???

    Working with Gen-III Tupperware

I perused around and didn't see where there has been any specific discussion about methods for removing/re-installing the Gen-III fairing pieces (aka Tupperware). I also checked with a couple Yamaha dealers who were also freakin clueless (big surprise there). The Owner Manual actually has some...
