    Not really news, but...

This popped up on a news feed... https://www.topspeed.com/reasons-to-choose-yamaha-fjr1300-for-next-touring-adventure/#advanced-electronics-amp-rider-aids We are a little outdated with respect to modern electronics and features, but this is a reminder of what we have going for us. Sadly...

I rode my new FJR home from the dealer today - Clunk/rattle!/lower fairing issue?

I assume you are talking about the ones where you push in the pin so it is recessed (as opposed to the type with the Phillips-like head). Pin is flush with the rivet initially. I typically use an Allen wrench or small screwdriver to push the pin in one notch. If you can access the bottom...

Michelin Road 6 vs Dunlop Roadsmart IV

A year of testing to the cords on identical VFR bikes. Same roads, same riding style etc. Based on the miles, I would say it was pretty aggressive riding. Anyway, it is worth a read... https://roaddirt.tv/dunlop-roadsmart-iv-vs-michelin-road-6-final-results/

Tracer 9 GT as FJR Replacement?

Interesting to see that they have released a 2024 Tracer 9 GT+ and they call it "Yamaha's Ultimate Sport Tourer" https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/models.php?product=204&action=productPage Canadian site blurb says: The flagship of Yamaha's Sport Touring range, the new Tracer 9 GT+ is a...

    Desulfating Battery Charger

I just bought a NOCO Genius2 charger/maintainer. it says: The GENIUS2 automatically detects sulfation/acid stratification. If any is found, the GENIUS2 will automatically repair and reverse the damage done to the battery, extending the usable life and increasing the performance...

    Look what followed me home!

I punched in the title and found that there were five other threads with exactly the same title! 2017 BMW F700 GS. Just over 25,500 miles (41,100 km). Needs a little TLC but decently equipped and more suited than the FJR to gravel and modest dirt. I bought it for "the roads less traveled" and...

Posting Photos - New Forum software (since late 2021)

Late last year, FJRforum.com changed hands and changed the software platform. It is now running under XenForo and there are some changes in how things work (mostly for the better). The biggest difference that affects members is in the area of posting photos. With the old software, any photos...

    Throttlemeister Parts - Friction Tube

Does anyone know where I might be able to order one of these? Throttlemeister is no longer in business and I didn't find anyone who carries parts. I have the heavy bar ends but no functional throttle lock.

    James Webb Space Telescope

Way off topic, but... Anybody watching this stuff? Christmas Day launch. Will be halfway (distance) to its new home by this evening (6.5 days) but the full journey to the Lagrange L2 point at around 1.5 million km (~1 million miles) takes around 29 days (JWST is currently almost double the...

    Valve Check Problem!

This isn't the first valve check and adjustment I have done although it is the first I have done on my 2011.  Never had any problems in the past with my '07. About 130,000 km on the bike (81,000 miles).  Last check was done by previous owner at ~26,000 miles. All exhaust valves were OK.  Most...

    Spotwalla Change?

    Split: Off-topic about valve check

Valve check with the engine out of the frame would be REALLY easy!! Clean up the throttle bodies at the same time.

    Maine - Nova Scotia Ferry

Canceled for the 2021 season.  Comes as no surprise with continuing travel restrictions into Nova Scotia.  It seems unlikely to me that reasonably free travel across the Canadian border from the US will be restored before August or September - possibly longer if the vaccine rollout continues to...

    Moisture in front signal

Has anyone had issues with this?  Doesn't happen when washing but often appears after a ride in the rain.  Only on the right side.  I expect that it will corrode the contacts eventually.  Have not taken it apart yet.  Dries out after a few days.

    COVID Camping

My usual riding season includes at least a few excursions into New England for riding and camping - NH, VT, ME and upstate NY.  Obviously, not happening this year with international borders closed.  Effectively, many of the Canadian interprovincial borders are also closed so I can't even ride...

    Lifting an FJR by crane

Seems like an odd question but this has to do with taking a motorcycle as cargo on a Newfoundland coastal ferry.  The province maintains a low cost ferry service to remote towns along the coast.  Some routes handle autos but others are just passenger and freight.  Motorcycle can be loaded as...
