    ABS Needed?

@Super13 - Sorry to hear of your issue. First, never darken the doorway of that dealer again. If you have deep pockets, sue them. No, many older FJRs don't have ABS lights on intermittently. Whomever told you that was ignorant. Clean and grease your brake lever and pedal. If it continues...

    Snow is bullshit

Fixed that for you. Heidenau and Mitas both make good moto snow tires. You don't want studs unless you're on packed snow and ice 100% of the time. Riding in the snow, especially learning to ride in the snow, often involves drops and slides. Snow can be forgiving to plastic in terms of...

    Specific brake fluid

Unless an aftermarket reservoir cap is in place, all OEM reservoir caps will have the required DOT rated fluid or other fluid listed on them. At least Yamaha hasn't gone the BMW path with mineral oil in the clutch system.

2007 waits until water pump failure doesn't create a disaster

Off topic, but I had to google it. ---- Why do modern cars not have a dipstick? Vehicles with dipstick-less engines and transmissions came about to keep people from adding incorrect fluid. A person or non-qualified shop would add or change the fluid using the incorrect type. ---- Sounds a lot...

2007 waits until water pump failure doesn't create a disaster

Typically coolant is a two year life span. Sadly, it's likely the most neglected fluid on a vehicle. Brake fluid is next, also on a two year cycle. As RossKean mentioned, it's not the antifreeze properties, but the anti corrosion and water pump lube properties that diminish. For riders that...

North American Wild Card Moto-Tag Game

Rules are on page one. :) Does it say "Local" somewhere in the signage and can you get a picture with your bike and that signage? That would do nicely!

North American Wild Card Moto-Tag Game

November bump. I didn't think this was a challenging tag. Anything "local" will do.

Tank will not align after lifting it.

It's pretty common when you have a full tank of fuel for the tank to settle down at the rear pivot bolt when it's raised up. I used a bungie cord hooked on the rear rack to hold the tank up when working underneath. I often undid the electrical connection to the pump and the vent lines if I...

    TurboDave!

Probably, but both could get into some serious fun/trouble. RIP Dave, you were one of a kind. RJ, fix the flat, blow the dust off and come out and play!

    Howdy!

The heat is relative. Gen II bikes had some wings that you could adjust, but sometimes flew off too. Gen I bikes are bulletproof. There are a host of heat "fixes", but truth be told, if you wore real riding gear instead of jeans, it wasn't as much of an issue to begin with. 30K is nothing...

Nice pictures. I hope the trip was wonderful. Now if we could just get someone to ride to a fire station and take a picture of a fire vehicle with their bike and something else with their bike in the picture...

    2018 FJR key blank

Which is cheaper than having the locksmith just re-key the ignition or other locks to match.

    2018 FJR key blank

Originally the bike's keys came with a little metal tag with the key number on it. If you don't have that, the next place to look is in the owner's manual. Lots of people write it down in there. Failing that, you can try the dealer, (bring your title), or call Yamaha Customer Service and have...

    Turn signal lights.

12V is fun. Depending on how much fun you want to have, if you send 12v to the turn signals from a switched source like the tail light, or anything always on when the key is on, the turn signals will stay on. BUT, in order for them to flash when you use the turn signals, you would need to...

    Turn signal lights.

What model year do you have? Yamaha likes to switch things by interrupting the ground leg. I'm not sure if they are doing this with the turn signals, but it is most likely a wiring difference, rather than an ECU controlled feature, though anything is possible with the idiot coders out there...

Anybody got a FJR Crystal Ball

I was riding 35-50k a year at that point. All of the CCTs were genuine Yamaha, installed by a reputable 5 star rated tech at a Yamaha dealer. The bike was still under warranty at 100k. This was a time period before the CCT updates and I was averaging 1 CCT a year or so. When the blue dot...

Anybody got a FJR Crystal Ball

There are still a lot of riders here that started with Gen I FJRs. I went thru 5 CCTs in 162k miles. I always got a lot of notice and never had a catastrophic failure on the FJR. I did have a catastrophic failure on a Super Tenere, but one of, if not the first one to do so at 83k. The FJR...
