I followed Iggy's lead. It's great upgrade. When my first FJR died (God rest her soul), I pulled the LED bulbs and put them in my replacement. It's a big improvement on readability and longevity.

My first FJR would have never happened except for Warchild and the information on FJR Tech. There was nothing unique about my bike. I built it practically step by step from information on that site. For me, it too was invaluable.

It's my understanding that Kneebone always wanted the IBR to run in June to maximize the number of daylight hours. With the fiscal year for the City of Chicago ending on June 30, this was never an option until he retired. IIRC, the IBR has run in June since 2013.

There's no provision for audio out via a hard wire. It's Bluetooth only. I suppose this is no big deal for most people. With a phone jack (audio out) I could connect my ear buds directly to the GPS without the need for a Sena or other helmet mounted communication. No can do with the XT.

Last year I retired my 550 and replaced it with the XT. It's blazing fast and I like it. I do miss that fact that it's wireless only. No provision for hard wiring. I'm also streaming a lot on my phone since there's also no provision for the ole XM antenna. Wow. I'm just an old man.

My ear monitors didn't block any more noise than ear plugs; about 25 db. I always turned the music down in town where I felt I needed to hear my environment. At freeway speeds its hard to hear over the wind anyway.

I've been using ear monitors for something around 200K miles. As far as I'm concerned, they are the ONLY solution to comms on motorcycles. But heed Bounce's advice: I have destroyed my hearing. Severe hearing loss. Not from wind or road noise, but from a thousand hours of loud rock music. Put...

Sorry to hear your story, Warchild. When my independent BMW mechanic retired in 2006, I sold my R1100RS and bought a low mileage 2003 FJR. One of the better decisions in my life. I hope you can find another bike to lust after.
