    Another brake pad question:

The service manual says that when you replace the front brake pads, you should also change the pad shims and the pad spring (the latter referred to as "support pad" in the parts fiche). Is that really necessary? Do you folks do that?

    Keyless gas cap for sale

*** SOLD!! *** I bought this for rallying, never installed it, and then forgot I had it. I found it while clearing out some old parts. So -- it's a brand new, screw on gas cap just waiting for you. It's aluminum, not the gold tone it appears to be in these crummy cell phone photos. And it's...

    2011 Mason-Dixon

Final results of the 2011 MD 20-20 aren't up yet, but I wanted to give an early shout out to a couple of fjr riders. Our Own Matt Disher rode to 4th. Excellent finish! Also, one of the boni included "races" which were actually skill tests, and you all would have been proud of the way Mike...

    Just the battery, or...?

So, after a few hours of spirited riding with friends yesterday, the bike won't start. It sounds like a dying battery -- the slow turning of the starter, not fast enough to get it started. I come back after a few hours of playing, ready to bump start it to get it home, and it fires right up...

    The 2wf.com fjr project bike

I actually ran across this on STN. I think all the mods on this bike have been done by folks around here. That paint job looks nice, though, doesn't it? 2WF.com Project FJR1300

    cyclegadgets.com is gone

My go to source for mounting bits, especially RAM mounts, has gone under. From their web site: Very sad. We've lost an excellent, customer oriented vendor. :(

In-dash radar detector visual alert for under $10

My Friday night project: I wanted a visual alert for my Escort radar detector instead of the annoying beeps -- and their accompanying need for some kind of mixer -- but didn't like the cost of the aftermarket stuff. I also like stuff that looks more or less stock and I like to be able to leave...

    New bike in the stable!

It's an exciting day. Younger son, who just turned 16, really wants to learn to ride with Dad. And I just happened to stumble across this: 1998 Ninja 250, approx. 9800 miles, great shape except for a small crack in the fairing, well cared for by a guy I know from another list. And for under...

Pretend to ride and make $100

I swiped this from STN. The poster there said, "I asked about compensation, they said they would pay $100/person and it should take about 2 hours. Sounds like fun!"

    Cape Fear 1K reports

I'm sorry I didn't manage to catch up with all the FJR riders, but we made the marque proud again. Three FJR's started out of Murfreesboro, TN. Three started out of Ocala, FL. I was the only FJR starting out of Altoona. Peter Behm nailed his second Cape Fear win in a row with a first place...

    2009 Cape Fear 1K

Gentlemen and Gentlewomen, The now traditional east coast season opener is upon us. It's rally time! Who else from here is riding this weekend? Say hello in Wilmington. I'll probably be wearing a Top of the Bell Curve Rally Team t-shirt at the banquet. Due to schedule and budget, I'll only...

    Thanks to N/Line

There were a lot of great sponsors for NAFO, but while working on my bike last night, I realized that I should really give a public thanks to N/Line for that fairing screw allen wrench/bottle opener that was handed out to everyone there. It's a very cool little tool. I keep it handy and use it...

    Warchild is famous!

Okay, I haven't read it yet, but I was just told that Warchild's BBG world record is the focus of a Cycle World article this month. Doesn't look like the article is on their website. Off to the newsstand!

A little help from you SoCal folks

I just learned that an old friend was killed in a motorcycle accident in Calabasas on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 10). Nobody can find much info about it. I thought I'd take a stab in the dark with riders I know to see if anyone knew anything about it. His name was Peter Kollock. He was a...
