Seals for Timken or other tapered roller steering head bearings?

Just to keep everyone updated, I used the same seal as the one on the top; seems to work just fine. I worked my way up from 11 ft. lbs in 2 ft. lb. increments (followed by test rides) to 19 ft. lbs, and that eliminated my decel shimmy entirely. Thanks for the input everyone!

Seals for Timken or other tapered roller steering head bearings?

I'm starting to think the dust seals could be application specific, and since the FJR didn't come with tapered bearings to start with there's no guarantee there exists a commercially available seal with the proper OD to match the steering head bore in the frame. I might spring for the All Balls...

Seals for Timken or other tapered roller steering head bearings?

I called up All Balls to see if they'd be willing to sell me just the dust seals, and unfortunately they can't. Ah well.

Seals for Timken or other tapered roller steering head bearings?

I went down that route first, had a Yammy dealership check the torque for me. Tire pressures are also correct, PR4GTs. It's worse with the top box on, but IMHO shouldn't be shimmying at all. Hoping this fixes that.

Seals for Timken or other tapered roller steering head bearings?

I'd also like to add that I'm not satisfied with Yamaha's solution to my decel wobble, "Don't take your hands off the handlebars".

Seals for Timken or other tapered roller steering head bearings?

I've decided to replace my OEM steering head ball bearings with the tapered rollers I'd bought (TIMKEN 32006X) to fix my decel wobble and I have been scouring these threads looking for information on what seals I can use, having read that I can't or at least shouldn't use the OEM seals because...

Wynpro Bigfoot (Gen 3) or similar wanted

Sorry Mike, haven't gotten it yet, I just placed the order last night.  Also, I've never seen or used Dave's product, I'd just heard of his customers on this forum raving about his products.

Wynpro Bigfoot (Gen 3) or similar wanted

Thanks all, just bought the R&G foot from Twisted Throttle.  I had a Twisted Throttle gift card in my wallet for over 10 years, and there was still at least enough money to cover the cost.  Christmas in July!

Wynpro Bigfoot (Gen 3) or similar wanted

Hello all, I remember Dave at Wynpro used to sell these, but it appears he's no longer making them? (I hope I'm wrong) In lieu of Wynpro's excellent product, can anyone recommend something similar to make me less leery about my puny side stand foot? Thanks in advance

    6 Speed Transmission on a Gen 2

When the '16 came out, I looked up the engine case half part numbers between the early Gen 3 (5 spd) and later Gen 3 (6 spd) and they are different. That leads me to believe there are some machining differences between the two, likely to accommodate the newer gear sets, as nothing else has...

What's the CA in model FJR1300 ES CA?

I had tossed my canister as well on my '06, after having the engine stumble pulling into an intersection because the charcoal canister was burping raw fuel into Cylinders 1 & 4. Happened on hot days with a full tank of gas, not ideal for it to happen in traffic.

    1st & 5th disappear in dash indicator

    1st & 5th disappear in dash indicator

That's some bullshit right there. The switch, "indicator 'feeler'", or plunger, as I like to call it, and spring are completely external and accessible. No need to split the engine cases at all. Tried to search for pictures, and lookey here: Bryan Glynn (forum member, handle escapes me)...

    1st & 5th disappear in dash indicator

Not sure exactly what would cause that, and I'm relatively certain it's the same or similar neutral switch as a Gen 2, so first step for me would be to take out the switch and clean the contacts. There's a spring loaded plunger in the shift drum on the other side of the switch, the plunger and...

    Leaking Radiator

If you've got a competent radiator shop around you, they can cut open the end caps of the radiator, solder/braze closed that particular tube, and weld the end caps back up again. You'd lose a small fraction of your cooling capacity, but it wouldn't leak anymore. I've used these guys for my...

Project Bike - CCT Fail - Engine Woes

08FJR4ME, with enough time and money, anything is possible. It won't be known if physically there's a fitment issue unless someone makes an attempt at it. The cases have different part numbers between 2015 and 2016; who knows what they changed. Then there's the gear shift indicator and the...

Project Bike - CCT Fail - Engine Woes

EscapeFJR, unfortunately the two cogs that make 2nd gear in the 5 speed FJR haven't changed between 2001 and 2015 IIRC. The revised gear sets were on the input shaft, not the counter shaft. The 2006 and 2007 FJRs are damn near identical, except for color and maybe one other detail.
