    2014 FJR1300ES, 83,000 miles

My 06 AE just ticked over 70K. Got the bike near new in '11. Not one issue with the bike and still runs like a champ...

2006(+?) FJR1300 Recalls and Service Bulletins

My 03 lasted 100,000 trouble free miles.....my 06 AE now has 70,000 trouble free miles other than a shifter issue which Yamaha reluctantly fixed....Looking forward to at least another 30K...

Interested in a 2006 AE but scared of potential issues

I've an 06 AE and after the inital learning curve, love it. I've put 70,000 on the bike with no issues at all...that is after the shifter failed at 10K miles. Turned out there was a recall on the shifter that hadn't been done so the dealer took care of it. Taken two cross country rides on it...

Death Valley Dualsport or Street ride January 23-27

Titus Canyon is not to be missed. Have been on Saline Valley Road multiple times. Both North and South Pass might have snow/ice this time of year so rider beware. I'll see if I can get a trailer to haul my KLR650 down. Sounds like a good time.

what's the best solution for highway pegs?

I can vouch for the Garauld Accessory Highway PegsThat Training Pilot posted. Riding for the past 52 years, after a 500 mile day, my knees were killing me last summer. I searched the Forum and someone pointed me in GAHP direction. What a difference. Will keep me on the road for more years. I...

2006 AE stuck in Neutral...stuck on the road...

Update….shift actuator broke…Dealer contacted Yamaha and they said the repair was done according to their records (service bulletin repair as mentioned above. Thanks!). Dealer said repair not done correctly. Yamaha said cost ($1690) on me. I contacted Yamaha and they are going to go ahead and...

2006 AE stuck in Neutral...stuck on the road...

Fantastic. Thanks both for the quick reply. I hunted down the Service Bulletin and my bike falls into the range of the recall. I was able to download and copy and the great news is that Yamaha covers the cost to the dealer. Don't know if that is why is wrong, but I strongly suspect it is as when...

2006 AE stuck in Neutral...stuck on the road...

On my second FJR, this time a 2006 AE I picked up with 5K miles. Now have 26K and as I was leaving work, I up shifted to second, to third and viola, it went into neutral. Foot shifter or paddle shifter, nothing would move it out of neutral....had it towed to a Yamaha dealer that won't be able to...

    Lowering Link Redo

When I purchased my 06 FJR, the previous owner had installed a lowering link on the rear suspension. With the seat in the higher position, I'm fine, but a few times I've scrapped going over speed bump. I'd like to bring it back to stock with the OEM linkage. Any ideas where to get one? I've...

    FJR Mileage Milestones

65415 mi on my 03 before the motor got toasted. 9900 on its replacement, an 06 AE and counting. Usually do 14K per year...not iron butt territory yet.

Testing the waters to see if it's worth it.

I picked up a 06 AE yesterday with 5900 miles on it in pristine shape for 7900. I searched for several weeks. Not a lot of them were out there in CA. Sell the bike as stated above.

    Low compression. Head gasket failure?

Mystery solved. We had a bad year for pack rats in Northern Nevada. Ate the wiring on my truck. Bottomline is that the little creatures somehow got into the airbox, damaged the seals and all the debris they "packed" got sucked into the engine. Pistons, rings toast. Got some barn cats from the...

    Low compression. Head gasket failure?

Back to methodical tests and square one. Will keep board posted. Thanks to all who have contributed. As to the heating issue, no, it never got above three bars. The bike has gone through summers commuting my rear end 2X-3X per week; 100 mi round trip with splitting lanes, stop lights, and once...

    Low compression. Head gasket failure?

Ah, my frustration coming through about tossing the bike, like a computer that freezes. Want to take a hammer to it, but I think I'll give it a shot to repair. Can't believe the gasket went out with 64K. The bike was always in SoCal. In my 45 yrs of riding, this has been the best. Wait, my...

    Low compression. Head gasket failure?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. After the tests, oil squirts, et al, the verdict is head gasket failure. I've had the bike 9 faithful years with no problems other than the TPS which was covered under factory recall. With 64K on the bike, it seems time to retire this bike with the labor and...

    Low compression. Head gasket failure?

My 2003 FJR with 64K was running great until Oct. 27 when I parked it in my garage. When I tried to start it five weeks later, no go. Cranked over but did not start. Compression at about 80psi in all 4 cylinders! Leak down test the pressure in #1 flows into #2. Same with #3 and #4. Bizarre. I'm...
