    On line manuals

Working on a friends 2005 HD Sportster Custom, electrical issues. Need to get a manual for it, but would rather not spend 50 bucks on one. (I don't work on HD's much). Anyone have any experience with any online manuals? I have found a few for $10-$15 but have no idea hoe good they are. Thanks...

3rd Gen ES Suspension Problems Poll

Aw Fred, you answered me too quickly! Realized last night my thought process was off. Need to repeat to myself, "think before typing". Thank you for the very detailed response. For some reason, once I read height changing, I went to a height adjustable shock (which, as you pointed out, is a...

3rd Gen ES Suspension Problems Poll

I do not own an ES, but am curious on a few things. One, why does the height of the bike change when spring preload is adjusted? I have a Hyperpro rear shock on my FJR, ride height is not effected (and it wasn't with the stock shock either) when adjusting spring preload. That adjustment should...

So very, very sorry to hear this.

"I want you to enjoy your bike."

I can't imagine dealing with everything you are going through. My wife is also my best friend, and this has made me think I don't show my appreciation near enough. Frustrating knowing we can't do anything for you and your wife except give moral support and keep you both in our thoughts. I truly...

    The B-17G Bomber

Fantastic plane! I heard a noise while riding along, maybe 20 some years ago, and looked up to see a B-17 flying low over me. Rode my bike right up on someones lawn! I have a friend that fcaptained Liberators in WWII, listening to his stories, which he just started telling me at when he turned...

    Helmets

Agree about the fit, but I try to get a brand that has a reputation for quality. Really don't want to find that the "deal" I got didn't have great quality control. My wife and I t-boned a van at 55mph, I went head first into where the passenger door pillar meets the drip rail (the first hit)...

The Best Way To Hold The FJR Upright For Shock & Fork Removal ?

I built 2 of those racks for suspending the bike when it's stripped. They work great. And as Bounce said, when not in use, I turn the feet and hang them up out of way.

Interesting and honest review of Gen 4 FJR courtesy Revzilla

Why doe anyone care about a review? He feels it's boring...OK....it is, compared to my friends R1. And I do know some people that consider a sport bike a sport-touring bike. Some consider a GT1600 a sport touring bike, I consider it a touring boat...er...bike. Whatever makes you happy. I have...

    First Bike?

Some great stories here. Wish I could get a hold of some of these first bikes now. First "real bike" (none lawnmower engine powered) was a '74 DT250, I was 13. Poor bike took a lot of abuse from me. And then was rebuilt to be my first street bike.

    Summer Jacket Conversation

My wife and I had the earlier Olympia Airglide 3, and we loved them. I can not stand getting warm, and find the jacket was cooler (when moving) than just a t-shirt. We also crash tested them at 55mph, and no road rash at all. She has the new Olympia Airglide 5 and likes it even more. The new...

    6 speed MPG

That is more of what I was thinking with the power band. Although, milage on most of the gen versions seems close among the folks I rode with. And for those that asked about milage mattering, it does to my wife and I. We run to reserve a lot without stopping, on both the FJR and an old C10...

    6 speed MPG

I did search, so if I missed it, sorry. Anyone have a 6 speed FJR that had any other version and have you noticed a big increase in MPG? If so, what kind of riding do you do? Thanks for any information!

Why should I buy a Garmin over using my smartphone

What's a smartphone and GPS? (OK, I have an ancient Garmin I use for work....)

Have you ever gone without a windscreen?

I like riding on a bike with no windshield if it is slightly lean forward. Wonder if you can make a very short shield for the FJR and keep the nice airflow and not look like it lost something? Or maybe modify a used upper fairing.....hmm........

Fascinating Fasteners, Torque Wrenches, Clamping Force etc from a KLR Forum

Nice article, thanks. Been using the "one and done" fasteners on heads and rods since the late '70's, building competition auto engines. Never dealt with the angle torque until the FJR. Still, gave me a reason to buy a new wrench! I am in PA and use this service for my wrenches...

    OUCH.

I don't get that....wife and I have done 700 mile days 2 up on the stock seat fine. I admit, I do like the Sargent we put on better, but the bike had 60k when we put it on. Have to read that Master Yoda piece tho! To DaBear, I have had both leather (Corbin) and vinyl (Sargent and Russell) and...

What is your minimum size bike?

Have a '74 DT250 I love, and my wife's '78 KZ200 is a blast to ride (as long as you really plan your stops!) 200 miles is the limit for a day for me on either tho.......and both weigh more than 19 poubnds!
