    Sold My 2005

My beloved FJR rolled down my driveway for the last time yesterday w/ someone else in the pilot's seat. It is gone, Baby, gone! But, I retained the memories of cross country trips, twisty mountain roads and all the people I met along the way. The motorcycle itch has been scratched. Time for me...

    Side Cases Flying Off?

"So a recap here, because I'm confused. Correct where I'm wrong. There are at least 3 ways the operator can screw up: #1 Failure to put loctite on the screw that holds the locking mechanism itself (most common) and gets reported a lot. Lock can come off, case is then floating freely on the...

Gen I Spacer/tuning block mod. question

Do NOT use nylon spacers...they can cause failure of the screws...IIRC. When I read the above, I replaced my nylon spacers w/ SS screws and spacers from McMaster-Carr.

Took 45 years but they finally let me in - the Crash Club

Glad you're OK. This type of accident is why red light cameras have me spooked!

    Heat Issues

I have a set of handwings mounted on the bottom side of Garauld's brackets w/ Hella FF-50's on top. I think they keep the tank a bit cooler but I've never been convinced they do anything for the heat felt on the lower left shin...YMMV. Did you search on Cromeit Heat Fix?

    Alaska Leather?

Good idea! I'll have to try that. Oh yeah, I do like my Alaska Leather sheepskin seat cover.

    Avon Ultra Storm 2

I loved my Avon Azaros...good balance of grip and longevity. However, I'll stay away from Avon tires in the future until they can prove to me they have an effective QC program....they do have a QC program, I presume???

    Rear Brake Problem

Well, I can say that the only thing abt this entire episode that I know for sure is that I'm confused and concerned...especially since there was no obvious root cause to the brake problem I experienced. I know I'm perfectly capable of screwing something up but that's usually in the garage w/...

    Rear Brake Problem

Copy that "sticky pedal." I'm going to change the battery and radiator fluid today so I'll make sure the brake pedal is "free" and the rotor is clean. My takeaway from all this is that I need to do more preventative maintenance on the brakes than the frequency the service manual recommends.

    Rear Brake Problem

I don't have a cruise control and no one has told me my brake lights are always on. Although, I'm pretty much a solo rider so it's unusual to have another bike behind me. The deformed pad was strange...especially since there was not an obvious explanation. It's just a spooky situation to come...

    Rear Brake Problem

I picked up my bike a little while ago from the dealer...I've got brakes!! :yahoo: The mechanic was kind enough to walk out to the lot to explain what he found or, more correctly, what he didn't find.... 1. No ABS light on and no error codes. 2. The brake pads were way beyond the wear...

    Rear Brake Problem

Unfortunately, Travis, I did take the bike to Jim's out on Market Street. The mechanic there seems pretty good...the few times I've used or talked to him. The front guy is another story. I wanted to take the bike to a Yamaha dealer even though I did think abt going to Ken's. I buy all my...

    Rear Brake Problem

I got up this am and headed over to the local Yamaha dealership...you might know it would be raining! Anyway, I used the front brake only until I got to w/in a block of the dealership. I applied the back brake and it seemed the brake pedal travel was a bit "long" although it did...

    Rear Brake Problem

Thanx again for all the suggestions. I think this discussion will help when I talk to the mechanic tomorrow am. As soon as I get some info on the problem, I'll report back here.

    Rear Brake Problem

Thanx for your comments, S76. That sounds very reasonable and, I agree, something happened between the time I left and the time I returned. I'm going to try the WD40 or penetrating oil tomorrow am. It does seem like some of the pedal resistance has returned but, I have not ridden the bike...

    Rear Brake Problem

The dealer is only a few miles away and, yes, I feel I can ride there safely w/ just the front brakes...especially early on Sat am when there's less traffic. I have to go thru a photo-enforced intersection on the way to the dealer. It would add insult to injury if I got a performance award for...

    Rear Brake Problem

Thanx for the prompt reply, Iggy. Yes, it is a Gen I bike. I don't think the rear brake is "goobered" up as it does spring back into position after it's depressed. It is time to change the fluids...clutch, brake and radiator. I've got to take the plastic off to make some modifications to the...
