    Sold My 2005

My beloved FJR rolled down my driveway for the last time yesterday w/ someone else in the pilot's seat. It is gone, Baby, gone! But, I retained the memories of cross country trips, twisty mountain roads and all the people I met along the way. The motorcycle itch has been scratched. Time for me...

    Rear Brake Problem

When I left for my volunteer job this am, both front and rear brakes worked fine (on a 2005 Gen I)...I have a steep, downhill driveway to test them on. I left the job around noon today and immediately hopped on the interstate to head home. As I exited the interstate, I thought I had my right...

    Travelling Thru East Tennessee?

I hope this thread doesn't descend into a political discussion...I have no intention of doing so. I'm posting this as a public service message abt safety of 2 wheel riders. Johnson City,TN has 1 operational photo-enforced intersection w/ 5 more planned. Jonesborough, TN has 3 operational...

    Micro-Breweries in JoCy, TN

I posted this on the other forum but thought I'd copy it here as well... If you're coming to EOM and expecting to visit the Sophisticated Otter micro-brewery, I've got bad news and good news. First, the bad news...The Sophisticated Otter is no longer in business. The property has been leased...

    Back Seat Luggage

As I begin thinking abt my one and only LD trip (Summer '09) of the year, I was wondering if others secure their back seat luggage other than clips, bungees, whatever. I'm not talking abt hard luggage like a Givi but soft luggage like a Motofizz, Nelson-Rigg, duffle bag, etc. that sits on the...

CAUTION! The Electrically Challenged at Work!

Sorry, Guys, I have to vent for a moment. I wired up my Hella FF50's today, double checked the wiring schematic and buttoned-up the left side...over confidence showing here. Finally, I made the last connections to the Blue Sea fuse block at the rear of the bike and cranked the bike. The...

    Talk Me Down

I know this topic has been discussed ad naseum in the past but, at the risk of getting my pee-pee slapped, I'd like to read some recent comments w/, perhaps, some new perspectives. For the record, I did a search on ""6th gear" and the search was limited to the first 1000 posts. A friend of...

    DVD Software

I have an 80gig Microsoft Zune and have loaded 100+ albums to it w/ the Zune software running on an XP machine. This has been a flawless process...so far. Now I think I want to try loading some video DVD's to it...it has lot's and lot's of space left! However, I don't know what software I...

    Microsoft Zune

I'm thinking abt buying a MS Zune for tunes-on-the-go. But, I've read some reviews that say the MS Zune gets numerous error codes when running XP but seems to be compatible w/ Vista. So many, in fact, that some have returned the device to the store. And, one even said he had to "restore" his...

    Chasing Rabbits Up Roan Mountain

A friend of mine called Saturday nite and asked if I knew abt the ride on Sunday. I did not. He said it is an annual "First Sunday in January" ride to the top of Roan Mountain and it has been an annual event for 70 years. "OK, I'm in!" says I. The ride is sponsored by Jim's Motorcycle Shop...

    Battery Life

I still have the original battery in my '05 that I bought new. It'll be 3 yrs old (to me) next May. IIRC, most comments I've read on this forum say the battery has a useful life of 3-4 years. My question is...what are the symptoms of a battery going bad? Or, will it just drop dead...

    Software Question

I have seen some ride report slide shows that contain digital images that pan and zoom. What is the software that can do that? And, no, I didn't do a search because I have no clue as to what to use as search words. TIA.

    Question about Roads into Lewisburg

My "steaming pile of agricultural waste" mapping software is routing me from 1-81 to I-77N to I-64 into Lewisburg. It looks like I could "cut the butter" by exiting I-77 onto 460/219 and take it north to Lewisburg. Can someone tell me if that is an OK road? TIA. See you Fri pm... :yahoo:

    Santa Fe to Pagosa Springs

Last year I rode from Pagosa Springs to Santa Fe and the road had a lot of construction...difficult riding, in places, for me. Can someone tell me if the construction is still in progress or is the road complete. TIA.

    Moko Torque Value

Is 29 ft-lbs still the recommended torque value for the Moko slider bobbin hex nut? I don't want to overtighten the thing and strip it out...ala the oil drain plug. And, is Blue Loctite recommended? I'm abt to remove the Moko and left side fairing and my inquiring mind wants to know! TIA.

    Ride Reports at advriders.com

I suspect most folks here are aware of this but just in case... If you need a vicarious "fix" to scratch your 2-wheeled travel itch, check out the Ride Reports at advriders.com. Here's a paraphrased sampling... "Hmmm! Think I'll spend a month in Mexico solo." "Gee! Think I'll quit my job...

    Powerlet for Heated Vest

I did a quick search and it seems like the "typical" place to locate a Powerlet for a heated vest is in the fairing by the left knee and the heattroller in A panel. Is this the consensus of the group? Any difficulties I should BOLO for? TIA.

    Datel Installation

I've used the normal installation point in the rear of D panel for a Powerlet outlet. I'm wondering if anyone has ever installed a Datel voltmeter in C panel near the top. It doesn't appear there is a totally flat surface there. Is there a trick to the installation here? Are there any...

    Hard to Start Episode

I haven't ridden my bike in about a week after changing oil & filter. It's raining today so I thought I'd go out and start the bike in the garage...instead of just sitting on it and making VROOM-VROOM noises. It didn't start on the first try and sounded kinda funny. It has a low level in the...
