    My 2008 FJR 1300

Same. I put a few years and many long days on the stock saddle and just refused to pay what new saddles cost. The stock saddle, compared to many I've had, was OK -- not good, but OK. Then I saw a used Corbin online (maybe here; I don't really remember) for a smoking good price, and I grabbed...

    Garmin Zumo discount

12 years on a battery is amazing. I changed my OEM out a 5 years, and I'm now at 10 and planning to change it again. Maybe I'll rethink that. :)

    Garmin Zumo discount

When I switch my ignition off, my old 396 gives me several seconds' warning before shutting down and gives me an opportunity to cancel the shutdown. If I cancel, it keeps running off it's own battery. I don't know how long it would run then, but it's always been enough. I leave it on the bike...

    Parts Wanted Saddlebag Yamaha Logo

See Dan Cooper's post above. You can buy that piece, just the black piece, if you check the microfiche online or have your dealer check for you for a 2012 or earlier. Why they stopped offering it separately for 2013 later is a mystery. Don't trust the adhesive that comes with it.

Where do you buy your oil change kit from

One sale at our local Walmart for $23.50 today. During the Great COVID hysteria of 2020 I couldn't find it anywhere for less than $60 a gallon or so. I'm glad to see it's reasonable again.

Where do you buy your oil change kit from

That's interesting; 946 ml is one of our quarts. I'd have assumed you'd buy oil by the liter in Canada. Shows you what I know. I've always got at least a few ounces of oil in various viscosities on the shelf. I buy it by the quart and use it by the liter in both bikes -- 4 of 'em in the...

Steering Head Roller Bearing - Upgrade or Boondoogle?

My '99 ZRX1100 came with tapered bearings.

Where do you buy your oil change kit from

I usually buy my "kit" from Walmart -- either Rotella t6 in 15w40 or Mobil 1 4T motorcycle oil. Filters are usually Mobil 1 Walmart usually. I use Mobil 1 4T motorcycle oil and M1-108 Mobil 1 filters. If you prefer the longer filter that'd be the M1-110 I did use Amsoil 10w40 motorcycle...

    Oil filters size options.

They started specifying the longer filter in 2013, so we're into the second decade of discussions. Welcome to the fray. ;) I picked my bike up new March 2, 2013, and picked up a filter at the same time. The service guy had an older model and just sold me the filter that fit his, and when I...

Seals for Timken or other tapered roller steering head bearings?

110,000 here and so far, so good. I still have no play fore and aft and no roughness whatsoever in the headstock. Many of my bikes with rollers up front have developed a detent straight ahead, but there's not a sign of it on the FJR. I would expect the detent to form in states with very rough...

Heading to the Black Hills of SD. Recommendations/Advice welcome

If you're into this sort of thing, the Mammoth digs at Hot Springs are worth the trip. https://mammothsite.org/

    Seat removal without a key

We had a ZRX rider lock his key under his seat on a ride. I pulled mine next to him and removed the seat and borrowed a long screwdriver from a friendly guy in a truck near by. Then using mine as a model we were able to spring his seat up enough to reach in with the screwdriver at just the...

Do you all get “challenged” at stop lights?

I don't know that I've got a specific amount of time. I just give it a good look in both directions and make sure it's safe before going. I stopped at a light near my home a few months ago, and the guy behind me passed me to run it. Like vzhq16 said above, I treat it like a 4-way stop.

Do you all get “challenged” at stop lights?

Several years back -- actually several decades -- a customer at the local Yamaha shop where my wife worked was killed when he took off at a light just when it changed. The light changed, he went, and the person trying to make the yellow from the other direction hit him. I know that at least a...

Wendy Crockett and Ian McPhee ride a little ride...

Thanks for posting that. It's hard to express my admiration for both these riders. I'd buy the book :)

Is a FJR a money thing?

I've not taken part in this thread, so far, but for me, it's pretty simple. I've been riding since Johnson was president and have had some 26 motorcycles -- 25 of them have been Japanese (the one Spanish bike is sort of an outlier). They have, to a bike, been of good build quality and not...

This hopefully will keep mice outa my air cleaner.

We live in a rural area and have no problem with mice. It sometimes amazes me, but we rarely see any evidence and none have taken up residence in our cars, motorcycles, or RVs. We do, however, have bunch of snakes. They're encouraged as long as they stay outside. :) And yes, I know...

    Best tires?

I don't know how many tires I've bought online, usually from the source with the lowest price, and I don't believe I've ever bought one more than a year past the date code. Usually it's a few months old when it's in my hands. I will catch a rebate going and buy two sets sometimes, and they...

New to FJR, rode HD,Goldwings,Cruisers for decades, wife doesn’t want to ride anymore

Welcome aboard. I am a reformed Goldwing rider and couldn't be happier myself. Passenger accommodations aren't a consideration for me either; my wife last ride with me in about 1980.
