Doesn't start - then it does

I have a 2007 FJR with 20,000 miles on it.  It has had the recall services for the ignition key, ECU and spider ground.  Yesterday, after an hour ride, the bike would not start.  With the key off I hooked up jumper cables.  The bike started to crank so I turned the key on and it started, ran for...

Tank bra for a Gen II

My Mag-Knight tank bra has cracked. A replacement, including shipping, is over $100. Seems excessive to me. Does anyone know of a similar, less expensive tank bra? I'm not looking for one of those fancy, etched designs. Just something simple that protects the tank. Thanks, Jon

    Best replacement battery

Amazingly, the original battery in my 2007 Gen II is still working. But I'm not going to tempt the fates any longer and am therefore looking for a replacement battery. I'd like to get suggestions on which to buy.

Michelin Pilot Power 180/55-17 motorcycle tire

I screwed up and bought the wrong tire for my motorcycle. So here it is. Michelin Pilot Power 180/55-17. Never mounted, never used. I know it will fit the rear of Gen IIs. Not sure of other applications. I paid $124 on Amazon for it in May. I have it on eBay starting for $75 but will...

Used Garauld's resevoir mounted bracket for sale

I have a used reservoir mounted radar detector bracket made by Garauld for sale. It works great. I just went with a different mounting system. I have the bracket, the rubber gasket and the mounting screws. I don't have the strap. The bracket has a couple small scratches and the rubber...

    Help on installing FZ-1 mirrors

I'm tired of looking at my elbows in the mirrors on '07 FJR and so I want to install a set of FZ-1 mirrors on the bike. Can anyone help me with the following: 1. I want to purchase OEM mirrors. What part numbers should I get? 2. About what should I expect to pay? 3. Do I have to remove...

Mounting a 2-way radio in the front fairing pocket

I have a new Yaseu FTM-10r ham radio that I want to mount on my '07 FJR. The radio's body and head separate and mounting the head will be easy on a ram mount by the left grip. The body of the radio, however, presents another issue. I'd like it in a place that doesn't get wet but still gets...

    Help find a ram mount

I want to mount the head of my ham radio to a mount on the left grip. I'm looking for a ram mount that will use the two bolts that hold the grip, lever, etc to the handlebar. I've searched but so far haven't found one. Any suggestions?

Lowering an FJR in three steps

I have completed work lowering my FJR and have created illustrated directions on what I did. I will gladly share them with anyone who wants. The work was done on a 2007 (Gen II) bike. I assume it will work on all Gen IIs, but make no promises. This work was done because I wanted my feet flat...

    Chicago-area garage day

Chicago-area FJR owners are having the Second Annual FJR Garage Day on November 22. We will be in my heated garage located in a western suburb of Chicago. Folks can bring their bikes to work on or just stop by to chat. Available will be two lifts (one an air-operated drive-on lift and the...

Lowered bike needs a shorter center stand

I have lowered my bike by 1) lowering the seat by carving the seat pan (but not the foam) and 2) installing longer dog bones and lowering the front suspension. The lowered suspension has made getting the bike up on the center stand near impossible. I am going to cut the center stand and...

    Bike starts up full throttle

While trying to change the CO settings on my '07 FJR (after doing the BJM) I apparently went to the wrong submenu. When I realized this I shut off the bike and restarted it. But now the bike starts up full throttle. I shut it off immediately and checked the throttle cables and linkage...

    Opinions sought on handlebar risers

The riding position on my '07 FJR is near perfect but not quite. I've decided to raise the bars some. I'm looking for comments on handlebar riser blocks (not the replacement triple-tree -- I can't afford it). I want to bring the bars up and back about an inch or so. Comments and suggestions...

Finished bike mods and willing to help others

The winter projects are done - now if winter would just be over. I made the following mods to my '07 FJR over the winter and would be willing to do the same for other Chicago-area FJR owners: Disabled windshield auto retract Barbarian Jumper Modification to enable CO adjustment CO adjustment...

Barbarian Jumper Modification for Gen II bikes

After reading the posts on the Barbarian Jumper Modification (BJM) on the Forum I decided it was something I wanted to do to my '07 FJR. While the info was great, I could not find any directions or pictures specific to Gen II bikes. It appears that the mod was originally done to Gen I bikes...

Lower your seat; not your bike

My short legs and my '07 FJR are a poor mix. Not wanting to have surgery to my legs or bike's suspension, I tried to get a modified, lower seat from Rick Mayer. When that failed (read my comments in the dealer feedback section) I went at my stock seat myself. First, I removed and discarded...

    Rick Mayer Cycle

Last year I bought a seat from Rick Mayer Cycle for my 2007 FJR. It was a troubling experience which I think Forum members may want to know about. Please read on. My short legs and FJR are a poor mix. Last year I checked out some friends' FJRs with after-market saddles to see if any would...

Anyone using Motor Cycle Cruise control?

Santa just may have a surprise for me this year but he needs some technical advice. Which is a better cruise control for my 2007 FJR (manual shift) - the Audiovox or the Motor Cycle Cruise (Australian company) unit. Any help/suggestions appreciated so that Santa will know what to do. Jon
