Coolant leak at the thermostat housing

Another five year bump. Mainly to say thanks to OP for the thread and follow up. Don't post much here but shortly after a valve clearance check developed the same leak on my '05 with 40k miles. Was at first thinking the reinstall of the coolant pipe during maintenance had gone awry but once...

Wal-mart says "No Oil Change in Parking Lot"

Thankfully Fairbanks Walmart didn't have this policy last August. I was carrying leak proof contractor's bags just in case but they brought us out a drain pan and rags and such. The change was no different than had it been done in a garage. Daniel, it's ok to take your meds man.

Thinking About Running The FJR on Local Road Course

I thought that but after many many rider meetings the mob has convinced me the number one reason to be there is to get a knee down :)

    Lane Splitting--L.A. Style

They designate traffic islands (whether there's an actual island or not). The local boards are full of riders that insist on using them then complain when they get cited. I avoid them.

    Avoiding LA traffic?

If you want to transit LA direct and avoid traffic I'd plan for 9p-5a and monitor the Caltrans highway conditions page for night time closures/construction. If you're inexperienced or uncomfortable with lane sharing prefer routes with carpool lanes. Helps to be aware of the typical flow during...

    Motorcyclegear.com

Always good prices and fantastic service. Still have the used Vanson purchased 15 years ago when that was their primary biz. Since then they're the source of most of my apparel.

Is there a Correlation Between MPG and Tire Mileage?

Most DOT rubber is designed to get up to operating range fast. Gassing, heat cycles, cockles, mussels... If rider A and rider B cover the same distance and all else being equal rider A's tires fully cycle three times... What about the guy that coasts to every stop to save his back tire...

    In-line Volume Control - Ipod

I've used the Koss VC 20 ($10 from amazon) on a couple bikes. I couldn't find anything truly oversized for easier operation with gloves but mounted under the LH switch gear and could drag my gloved thumb across it without removing fingers from grip without issue.

    Best bag liners?

Er, have you read OP? I was in the same situ.

    Best bag liners?

Ended up returning the bag liners and using Aerostich LP bags.

    Leaking Fork Seal

I've never cleaned a leaking fork seal that wasn't leaking again in fairly short order. YMMV. Using a piece of film or a feeler gauge is worth a try while parts are on order :)

    Fork Oil Change Made Easier

That's a nice fab job on the tool. I still use a bent piece of wire to show me the level to fill to. Still have a Motion Pro tool that was a gift that I've never unwrapped. To me it's not really a "change" unless the fork is pulled to get all of the old oil out. YMMV.

    Survey: What's under your seat?

Stock tools, paperwork, a $20 bill, spare fuses including a master, tire repair stuff, bungee net, and spare givi key. Givi has a few additional items based on whether it's daily commuting vs a trip etc. Just a thought on compressor vs co2... I always carry a compressor and have used it many...
