Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Lone Star in Irving. The service department seemed to be competent. It's not really farther from me than the shop I usually go to in Rockwall, but you have to drive through downtown Dallas to get there and back unless you want to go 10 or 15 miles out of the way to avoid it. The traffic sucks...

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

That's what I was talking about. I already knew that. I checked the valves just fine and can get by with the measurements till the next check. You have to take the cams off to replace shims. I wasn't prepared to do that if it needed it. Will try to be prepared at the next check with the...

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Ok, I took the bike over to another shop in the area and they did a diagnostic check. The codes came up and they cancelled them. No more check engine light. These guys were older experienced Tech's. All I can figure is The younger unexperienced Tech that did the first diagnostic either didn't...

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Just from reading on the forum over the past years, most will tighten up at different rates. I think there might have been some problems with FJRs that were never checked and adjusted when they needed it. The only way you can be sure is to just get a new FJR every 40 to 50 thousand miles. Ha...

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

The two exhaust valves were just .01 out of spec. My old trusted mechanic, that doesnt wrench anymore because of his bad back, told me not to worry about that much of a difference. I wasn't prepared to pull the cams anyway. I suppose I can do that eventually. Just a little concerned about...

I took the bike to my Yamaha dealer and they hooked it up to the diagnostics on their laptop. 4 codes came up. PO118 Coolant Temp sensor P114 Air injection sensor 196 Event Coolant temp sensor...

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Ok, I took it out for a test drive and it runs like a top, but...... The check engine light is on. I'm thinking its just because I unhooked a lot of electrical stuff to get the wiring harness moved over so I could slide the valve cover back in. Is there a way for me to check it myself or will I...

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Yay! Finally got it. Finally figured out to unplug almost everything on that big wiring harness. It made enough room to get the cover seated. No adjustment needed, but that will be another problem for later down the road. Gp

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Yes. I've been trying that. I attached the gasket with some permatex ultra black. The cam chains are pushing the gasket loose as I try to slide it in. Keep on trying and hope it slips in. GP

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Ok. So I get all the parts I need and watch a video on how to do the valve check. Tore everything down and got the check done. I knew putting the valve cover was going to be a bitch to put back on because it wasnt too easy to take off. Any tips on putting the cover back on a Gen 3. I tried...

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

So, I'm assuming you do your own valve checks/adjustments yourself. It would make sense with the miles you rack up. Save you a small forturne. I watched a video of a guy showing how to do it. Looks very time consuming, but I might give it a try and hope I get everything back together right. Ha!

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

I guess the bottom line is I don't mind letting a good mechanic do it if I know I trust them. Every time I find one, they head for greener pastures. If someone here on the forum, that has good experience with it and wants to help me do it, I would consider it. DFW tech day?

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Thanks for all the input. I have 32,327 miles on my 2016. Still under warranty till May. This is my 4th FJR. The first valve check on my other 3 did not need any adjustments at 30,000 miles. And yes Dan, Ive been on the forum long enought to know of the valve train stability. :) It's one of the...

Valve check/Valve adjustment in Dallas-Ft. Worth

Having a hard time finding a tech that has actually done a valve adjustment or valve check on an FJR in the Dallas area. The tech that did my last one quit wrenching and is now in the parts department. I found another guy in Plano that had done quite a few and he quit and went God knows where...

    Mirror Extensions

I had them on My 2004, 2008, 2012, and my 2016. The newer ones you have to dremel a little nub down on the motorcycle mounting surface if you want them to sit flush with the bodywork. Not too difficult. If i can do it anyone can. Well worth it in my opinion. GP
