Parts For Sale Audiovox Cruise Control kit for sale - New, never installed.

Worse, that's only $148.80 USD. I've installed three of these rascals two different bikes and a VW camper, and they work like a charm. I'd have jumped on this one for spares.

    hi from pa

I'll suggest a slight shift on using handling as a decider - not so much "who handles best" as "who handles how you like it". I've been on bikes that were supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. That's nice, but I didn't enjoy the bike - pass.

    hi from pa

I just sampled I-81 near Scranton, and was reminded of why there's a bumper sticker reading "Pray for me - I drive I-81". The '16 in the avatar wasn't a mirror-shaker. BMW's gotten pretty good with that. Two pistons going in opposite directions are kind of hard to totally smooth out. BMW...

Depending on the age of the RT, the "boxer shimmy" is a fact of life. Earlier bike... I demoed an early 2000's RT and couldn't deal with "riding on a sewing machine". BMW's managed to make most of that go away, but a boxer will always have a little boxer feel to it. The FJR has its little...

    hi from pa

As my avatar shows, I know the RT (I'm entering a hairpin on the way up the Stelvio pass road in the Alps), and I know the FJR. My previous bike was a BMW K1200RS. The change from BMW to Yamaha was forced on me (vandals got to the K1200). Short answer: I don't regret leaving the BMW world for...

    Garmin Zumo discount

I looked at the MotoPump unit, and it doesn't really add much to the discussion. OTOH Touratech has this beast... For a "mere" $200 USD. Let's see, how much did I pay for the XT? Oh boy!

Considering a 2016 FJR, but concerned about tranny recall.

Yep, can go either way. Point is, though, even if it's "only" going in from the bottom, there are still a few seals, etc. that get disturbed, and the owner's still left with a degree of "sure hope it all went back together right". OTOH, if the gear lets go, a locked rear wheel at speed isn't...

OK, installation complete - and I still think the FJR's battery access panel's primary function is to drive me to frustration and distraction. Grrr... Enough. IMNSHO the mount's a poor design. A little tiny plastic ridge has to sit correctly in a tiny plastic groove, and a second tiny plastic...

Considering a 2016 FJR, but concerned about tranny recall.

I can think of one very good reason to consider passing on the gear repair: the engine has to be torn apart to fix the problem. So... replace a gear with a low failure rate, and then cope with whatever surprises come from not putting the motor back together correctly. I had the work done early...

I've been using the XT in our VW Vanagon Westfalia (pop-top camper). I finally got it together to pull out the TomTom mount and install the XT. It was mildly instructive. Specifically the black box at the end of the power cable's an electronic fuse as well as voltage regulator. I installed a...

Heading to the Black Hills of SD. Recommendations/Advice welcome

The loop's worth the effort, just keep your head on a swivel. For the brave and bold, there's the ride up Mount Coolidge.... Agreed regarding Needles and Iron Mountain before the traffic really cranks up.

Heading to the Black Hills of SD. Recommendations/Advice welcome

Two words for Wall Drug: don't bother. It's all about separating you from your money, and parking is a PITA. Even with a bike. The same's true for Deadwood. Something nobody's mentioned: let the wild animals stay wild. Resist the temptation to feed or pet anything, small or big. Animals...

So true! A friend with a Garmin Nuvi blocked toll roads. He couldn't figure out why the GPS sent him from Philadelphia to Newport, Rhode Island via Buffalo.

I replaced my TomTom 550 with the XT. I'm not thrilled about the map situation. I used the 550 in the US&Canada and Europe; all maps were part of the purchase. The XT only has North America; I'll have to buy Europe separately. Grumble, grumble... The reason I dropped the 550 is simple. The POI...

There's a mount and wiring for the XT in the box. There's no pressing need to buy to Garmin car kit for $50, though. The XT takes the old micro (roughly D-shape plug) USB cable, and there are any number of off-brand (i.e., not Garmin) dash mounts, etc. that can be used with the XT.

    TomTom 550 Destination Search Problem

You comments about Garmin make more sense, based on earlier experience with Garmin. At this point, my faith in the TomTom POI database is even lower than the nav system (sic) in my Volvo XC40. And that ain't a compliment to Volvo. I've literally been in the Ace and Boot Barn parking lots and...

    TomTom 550 Destination Search Problem

No doubt it's an on-board POI database issue. The problem I'm having is I can't force my 550 into the point where it downloads a fresh firmware set (part of the "secret" hold the power button down until..." process). I'd ditch the thing, except it lets me carry both US and European maps at the...

    TomTom 550 Destination Search Problem

My TomTom 550's internal destination search fails to turn up obvious locations. "Obvious" is defined as "in TomTom's online route planner". I would greatly appreciate it if a few 550 owners could attempt to locate two businesses: Ace Hardware, 467 Main St, Harleysville, PA 19438 and Boot Barn...

    Tan 'Stitch Colorfastness

Uh, the OP may be quiet, but someone thinking about Aerostich suits, there's probably something useful above. Clutter? Nah. [/ grin]
