    Thousand mile day.

I found myself in San Diego in June after taking my daughter on a trans-continental HS graduation ride. She flew back home to Raleigh and I was perfectly set up for a 50CC. The problem was, I didn't take the FJR. I had to opt for the Valkyrie as it has a passenger backrest and armrests but came...

    Summer Jackets, Pants, and Gloves

My experience is similar to Goodman’s. I grew up riding in shorts and t-shirts on hot days. I’ve been on the pavement a few times but luckily it’s been on cool days when I had something on. I’ve been moving toward more thoughtful apparel over the years and am currently at: always gloves, usually...

I'll take that collective silence as "uncle". This is on the approach to the cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde National Park. If you do go sometime - be sure to sign up ahead of time for one of the guided tours through the dwellings. Stunning. Something a little more definitive...

Not in CA, but this landscape also resulted from a burn. What stood out to me was that the trunks were almost silver in color - looked like stainless steel artwork. Hint: It's on a National Park.

This is more of a "you have to see it" to know it. But I've never seen anything else like it before so what the heck.

To keep things moving along; Shipyard Titanic. I've never been there but it does look pretty cool.

I wouldn’t believe that was possible if I only just read it. Wow.

At CP2, I took pics of about 25 riders coming in. I've got 7 fingerless gloves, 2 no gloves (may have removed them as they approached finish), 11 full gloves and about 6 I could not tell. Some of the pics are here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmWbUq9a

2010 FJR w/ Cruise Control and 62k miles-Grand Rapids, Michigan

HID high beams doesn't sound right. They have to warm up to operating temps and can be used for low beam, but not high beam. Perhaps you mean halogen or led high beams. Sometimes, HID "high/low" replacement bulbs are sold with an HID low beam and a halogen high beam.

Yeah, if you knew it was in Huntsville and you knew this years theme, it’s a no-brainer. I’ll be heading there to check it all out. Taking my Valkyrie instead of the FJR due to my daughter riding pillion. It’s a lot more comfortable for her. Hope to be in the parking lot by 3pm Sunday.

I, too, rode a 2-stroke in the early 80’s and can attest to the added complexity of also finding 2-stoke oil in addition to gas on trips. I’d be toting about a gallon of it in reserve if I were him. Then again, a 40 year old 2-stroke bike was in the last two runnings and did just fine.

I'm pulling for Al Greenwood. He's from my hometown and he's rocking, by far, the oldest bike out there - a mile eating '89 GL1500. Not to mention he's navigating with old school paper maps like he did in his first IBR 35 years ago. Nothing but respect. The Clayton Comet!
