+1 on checking you spark plug wires and resistor caps, remove the caps from the wire and use a DVOM to measure resistance, they should all roughly be the same probably like 5k or so. Also look on the inside of the caps with a flashlight looking for arcing...

I use a big nelson Riggs and no problems as long as it's not too far forward. I love it for big trips but front use it otherwise on the FJR ..

+1 sounds like a battery issue/voltage dropping too much... That's the only reason the dash would reset. Even with a jumper if the battery is bad it could still drop voltage below what the dash needs to stay on. How old is the battery?

This hardly represents the whole thing at the time but you can still see how bad it was...

If its pop[ping might be loosing ignition, fuel still going through the engine but not getting burned... Check your spark plugs/wires and especially the resistors, look inside with a flashlight for arcing and check them for proper resistance... Most are in the 5k range but it will be fairly...

it really doesn't matter what's wrong in there, you'll have to pull the engine and split the cases. Then you can see what's causing the problem. If you shift without the clutch and do it smoothly there will not be any excess wear on the dogs, if you hammer it in without letting off the throttle...

If the starter is drawing too much current it will pull the voltage down on the battery pretty quick.
