    My Russell Day Long

Confirmed: Brain-dead behavior detected. Thank you Whooshka for the mental kick just by using the words Blocking Plate I was moving the blocker plate to the lower position, then trying to shove the tongue into the blocker plate... So I WAS riding in in the low position. I moved the blocker...

    My Russell Day Long

"Blocking plate" 🤦‍♂️ Yep, I'm being dumb. The pictured config is the "low" setting on the front, and the seat tongue needs to go where the plate is currently to reach the high setting. Had it backwards in my brain for some reason and was correlating moving the plate lower to low setting...

    My Russell Day Long

Maybe I’m just reading it wrong. Pictured is the only configuration I can get the seat to install in. With the front on the low setting the edge of the seat is contacting the side fairings before the seat nub can reach the bracing point. With the rear in the rearwards position (high?) the...

    My Russell Day Long

Well I'm not sure which of the combinations mentioned in the sale thread I would fit into, but I received a used Russell Day Long today and went on an errand trip to try it out. Definitely a big change to the FJR experience. The leather is much smoother, so I'm sliding forward during...

Steering Head Roller Bearing - Upgrade or Boondoogle?

I had the same experience, bought used and had terrible handling and wobble. New tires cleaned it up considerably. I do wonder if the bearing upgrade would improve it further.

Trunk lid retention mount broke, repair options or suggestions?

My temporary fix was to drill a hole in the bottom of the broken mount and use a loop of paracord. No idea if it'll hold, but I figure it can't do more damage. Of course we all know how temporary fixes like this tend to become permanent unless they fail.

Trunk lid retention mount broke, repair options or suggestions?

Eh. then I'd have to make two mount points instead of one. Plus I do like the retractable; I've had wire retainers before and have had issues with my stuff shifting enough to snag the cable causing problems when trying to open, or the cable getting caught in the lid when closing.

Trunk lid retention mount broke, repair options or suggestions?

I only found one piece of what appears to be a complex puzzle, not enough to attempt a reconstruction I’m interested in this ABS rod technique, is it like welding where you are melting the existing ABS to fuse with the rod material or more like braising where you are just melting the rod that...

Trunk lid retention mount broke, repair options or suggestions?

The lid to the Yamaha trunk is kept from overextending using a retractable reel attached to a mount point inside the trunk. This afternoon the mount point gave way allowing the lid to overextend and popping some of the plastic covers on the outside Anyone else run into this and have advice for...

    FJR1300 Eastern Owners Meet - EOM - 2024 - Update

I would strongly like to attend. I’ve never done a meetup of any sort; generally a solo rider.

    Light kit for trunk

Very nice. How easy is it to detach/attach the luggage with the light kit?

Cycle World writer Kevin Cameron knows Squat

Correct, I was just making a cheap joke. Using preload and damping settings to try to lower the ride height is taking the suspension out of its operational design and would inevitably hurt performance not help it. Maybe even damage the suspension when you hard bottom it And you can’t change...

Weak preload and my heavy arse = Lower Ride Height ;)

    Windscreen shimming

Interesting. I'll look forward to your report after testing. Might do the trick for the OP instead of shimming I don't think I could run this on my CalSci as the top of the screen is just below my line of sight when low and just above it when raised. I'd be worried the black edging would...

    Windscreen shimming

I am 6’5”, 33 inseam, with stock seat in high position and stock bars I’ve found the smoothest ride to be the stock shorty windscreen. I get more wind but it’s a smooth flow. At highway speed in full up position I can lean slightly forward and be out of most of the wind without buffeting. Only...

What did you do to your FJR today?

Lubed my clutch and brake levers after hearing the clutch lever squeaking at me. I love having the history of a forum to lean on: shop manual just says to lube all moving parts, not very helpful in isolation. https://www.fjrforum.com/threads/lubing-the-levers.10590/ was much more useful...

    Rear tire leak

Maybe you are just expecting too much from the tire; it can't handle the pressure. Does the shop have a tirepest on staff? Let it rest on the couch for a couple days? Tip your waiters folks
