    General Dislikes

These are the things we complain about: 1. Too heavy. But it's not a real problem for most, and sort of comes with all the other benefits. 2. Some years have lurchy throttles. Fixed with a Power Commander. 3. Older years put off lots of heat onto your legs. 4. Helmet buffetting. Experiment...

I had to clean the Garage

Now he's eligible for the GI Bill, right? That will create more life-long value than the 'vette.

    downsizing

The VFR's have always had my attention, especially after putting 87k miles on one. Technically I could "repossess" my old VFR from my brother on grounds of non-payment (runs great with 104k on it) but then he'll go spend thousands (he doesn't have) on another bike. In my opinion, the VFR800...

    downsizing

I've got a 2006 FJR and a 2011 Ninja 1000. I am specifically purchased the Ninja because I wanted something lighter which will still haul @ss and gear in a comfy manner. The main difference is wind protection (FJR is better). Minor issue is pegs on the Ninja are higher up and JFR has better...

The best farkle you ever had?

I'm 5'11" 32 inch inseam and the stock windshield instilled some turbulence and LOTS of windnoise, and like Brodie, I'd argue it's nearly unrideable. Adding the spacers helped a bunch.

    Continental Conti Motion Tires

That was sort of my thinking too ... I'd use the known-long-life PR2/3/4 for the long trips, and cheaper tires (i.e. Contimotion) for local rides. I don't mind running a tire down to cords locally, as long as it can get me home and I can decide whether to ride or not based on weather. But on...

The best farkle you ever had?

I'm going to revise my answer a little. Picking a "best farkle" is tough, because how does one define "BEST" ? The most expensive farkle would be the GP Suspension and Ohlin's. But I would have enjoyed the bike with a fresh stock suspension anyway. The most used farkle, which make crossing...

    Continental Conti Motion Tires

I had a front Conti for a couple thousand miles. I did not have it long enough to assess wear or wet performance. It took more weight than the PR2/PR3 I usually use, and it was sort of "numb" feeling. Still, good tire for the money, and a couple of my friends love them.

The best farkle you ever had?

Aerostich 1pc Roadcrafter. Granted that's not really a farkle. Ok, Power Commander. Without it my 2006 FJR is no fun in the curves.

    8000 mile service-plugs?

I only change them @ 26k when I check the valves and do TBS. I used iridium plugs and had no issues.

    2012 FJR Heat Issues

OP asked if all water-cooled bikes are hot, the answer is NO. I've had several; all were mid-displacement (500-800cc) and not one had heat issues. The Ninja 1000 does get hot IF I stick my lets out to the side. It's never an issue with my feet on the pegs as Kawasaki has successfully routed the...

    Ordering automotive parts.

I've used partstrain.com mostly with good results, twice with not good (i.e. still out hundreds of $$ after they sold me moog suspension parts that didn't fit).

Why New Plugs at Only 8,000 Miles?

I've always changed them with the valve adjustment (i.e. 26200 miles) and never had a problem. The Subaru, on the other hand, recommends 50k between changes, and it starts to degrade at about 40k, and it takes four freakin hours and seven skinned knuckles and lots of swearing and a sore back to...

    Geico Insurance experience

I looked at Geico but State Farm's rates were better (we have multiple loines of discounts etc). Plus, we have an umbrella policy with SF (being business owners) so the cycle ins. slides in nicely under that. I've totaled a bike at DCTC and SF paid out. No problems whatsoever. They covered the...

    A funny thing. . . . (HD Switching Buddies)

They are probably embarrassed to have you park next to their bikes and thus don't invite you to go barhopping. They miss your company. Peer pressure. Pffft.

Upsizing Rear Tire to 190/55 (w/ pics)

Thinking about this a little more .. the rim width remains the same, so how is the tire "wider"? I understand that the distance across the surface of the tire, from edge to edge, is 190mm (i.e. 10mm more than 180) but is the distance from the bead to the edge actually increased too? I would...

FJR Tire Wear - Is this normal?

I'd chalk it up to road crown.

    Did I screw up?

If I understand and remember correctly, the GT spec's have an extra ply for less flex when riding with a heavy load. But they removed some tread depth to make room for that ply. Keep your tires.

    They're still making PR2's

I just did a whole pile of tire changes for my club, and among them a PR2 (he likes it better for the front than the squirmy PR3/PR4). The PR4's had date: 4913, 0314, 0814 The PR2 was 5213 (i.e. last day of 2013). So they're still making the PR2's ... but for how long?

Oregon launching new program to tax drivers per mile

Here in MN we're still waiting for some sun. 40F and rain/sleet for nearly two weeks. Can't ride, so we sit around read about places where it's nice (like the 300+ sunny days per year in Bend ....!)
