I change the gear oil with every tire change, which used to be about 16K miles with the PR2s and PR3s. Road 5s will be lucky to go 10K. My '06 had 129K miles on it when I got rid of it, and still had the original clutch. I put some moly lube on the shaft spline and gear.
Taekwondo - currently a 2nd degree, working on 3rd. Also like camping with the family. Recently got into home brewing and vintage cast iron pans. Approaching geezerdom.
It was about 10 years ago. I think they may have been Avons, which were on the bike when I bought it. So initially put another set of Avons on. I prefer the MIchelins, but I've tried the Angels and a set of Contis. Can't remember how much weight I used, but it didn't change much over 120K...
Tried them in my '06 tires a long time ago. Front wheel vibrated like a mother. Bought a Marc Parnes balancer and put standard weights on and had no issues. YRMV.

The axle doesn't require lube. I put a light coat of grease on it during tire changes to prevent corrosion. Put a light coat of moly on the drive shaft gear ends, but that's about all you need.
Had the same issue with our GE side-by-side. Even installed the factory 'heater kit', but it still kept freezing up. It started dying, and got a Samsung french door model. Knock on wood, its been okay. Third fridge since we bought the house in '98.
Worked well for me over the summer as I had to pick up my daughters on the way home from work. Just bump it for two-up and luggage and I was good to go. Also good when I rode out to Western VA. Nice and cush for the highway droning, then tighten it up for the twisties. Then back again for...
