    Split: Off topic about Harleys

When a turn signal is activated our auxiliary lights turn off.

    Split: Off topic about Harleys

I run with my high beams and amber auxiliary lights on during the day.  Unlike loud pipes, running lights for conspicuity works.   At the inquest looking into the circumstances of my death, when the clueless dolt who turned in front of me says, “I just didn’t see him”, I want the entire room to...

2015 front tire prematurely wearing (cupping/scalloping)

I’ve had good luck in significantly reducing the incidence of scalloping by running the front tire at 40 PSI. This is/was true on a R1200RT, FJR, Super Tenere, R1200R, R1200GS and R1200GSA.   Once it starts on a tire there is no reversing the damage.

Garmin RansomWare hack - $10 Million

Why would not a large operation like Garmin have a system in which all emails that have attachments are checked for malware before being forwarded to an employee? Why would not a large operation like Garmin have a protected back-up of all their important software and data?

    Health Insurance for Motorcyclists

One of the health insurance plans we have is also Aetna.  It is the company  that provides coverage the Alaska Care program for retired employees of the State of Alaska. Never had any indication they will not cover motorcyclists.  It was my primary provider until I became eligible for Medicare...

    Health Insurance for Motorcyclists

There are companies that sell health insurance that covers only catastrophic health issues. They do not cover typical health expenses but are designed for events/illness that can be ruinously expensive. I have no personal experience with this sort of policy. They are evidently popular with young...

What happened to basic quality control

It is certainly unusual to hear of problems related to a lack of factory lubrication.

If you don't see the road...

Any idea of what was going on? A local kid was known for riding a dirt bike on water. He had a marker buoy attached to the bike so it could be found if it sank, and he wore a life vest.   He still drowned while attempting a night crossing of a local lake.  There was video of him putting on the...

    COVID-19 Catch All

The only real solution is to avoid reading or watching reports about the whatchamacallit and only take your health advice from motorcycle forums.

    COVID-19 Catch All

I am thinking, or at least hoping, that rural, sparsely populated places such as Montana will have some advantages when we are hit full force with the virus.  As of this morning there are 22 reported cases with many more to come.  Montana was able to take some preventative steps much earlier in...

    refrigerators

We have Samsung washer/dryer as well as a refrigerator.  The washer/dryer have worked well for nearly nine years.  The washer is a front loader and will get mold if the door is not left open when not in use, but that is not uncommon on front loaders.  The refrigerator has been disappointing.  It...

    2019 Miles Report

I think you need to explain the “new speedo”.  Don’t you find that it cramps the boys?  That might explain your reluctance to put in the big miles.

    Scotch or Bourbon?

Tobacco in any form is great right up until some part of your body turns on you; then things are not so great.  Survival can require a long and painful process that is worse for those who love you.  Then if things go well you get to live with some life long unpleasant disabilities.  Sorry to...
