Gen 3 , have to hit the starter button two or three times before bike starts. Use to start first click every time.?

What Whooshka said in post # 6. I had the same problem on my 2007A. It started with the same symptom that got progressively worse over last summer until the bike would not even start, eventually showing fault code 12. That sent me down a rabbit hole. It turned out that I needed new spark plugs...

Yellow Check Engine light turned and off then on and now off?

I have a 2007. I went through all the diagnostic codes just last month. If you do not disconnect the fuel pump connector, the fuel pump will run the entire time that you are running the diagnostic codes and the actuator codes. At best, this may drain your battery. At worst this may drain your...

    Fault Code 12

Thanks for your input. See post #8 on p.1.

    Starter button

I had exactly the same problem on my 2007. When I turned the key to the "on" position, I heard something spinning. The "something spinning" is the fuel pump. I also saw the dash needles doing their happy dance. Pressing the starter button gave me: nothing. Shorting the starter relay got the...

Final Drive Oil Change, Do This

Gleaming Alloy Air Car, I can vouch for the information provided in the link in post #7 (above). I used it to do the U-Joint maintenance on my 2007 FJR 1300A, last winter. The instructions are well written, easy to follow and includes helpful photos.

    Fault Code 12

RossKean, I did not remove the fuel tank, only lifted it and propped it up as you described. As for the coolant reservoir, I removed it from the bike, flushed it with hot water and inspected it. When cleaned, it looked brand-new. The temperature readout was as it should be. When the fans came...

    Fault Code 12

Well, I pulled the connector off the sensor and took a real close look inside of the connector. There was a microscopic piece of green plastic in there that I was able to remove using a dental pick. I then tested the sensor in a bath of boiling water. It worked as it should. I removed all the...

    Fault Code 12

I just tested the ECT sensor as per RossKean's direction in post #29, above. The resistance shows as 340 ohms at 80 degree C. So, within spec. Rocnsanman, thanks for the kind offer of a replacement part, but it looks like I do not need it. Now: to find out why the bike is overhaeating.

    Fault Code 12

Thanks, Rocnsanman. I will pull the part off the bike today and test it as per RossKean's instructions. Then I will get back to you.

Dan, the top is photo of the sensor in-situ, with the connector attached. The bottom photo shows the sensor without the connector.

    Fault Code 12

Symptoms are as follows: When the engine is started and run from a cold start, there is already one bar showing on the temperature guage with ignition in the "on" position before startup. The guage then rapidly runs up to 9 bars within 2 minutes of startup. After the 2 minutes of running, I...

    Fault Code 12

Update: I managed to erase the fault codes. No fault codes recurred. I had the battery load-tested: Good I checked the coils with a tester: Good I pulled the spark plugs. Plug from #3 cyclinder looked carbon fouled, so I changed all the plugs. Bike started right up on first try!!!!!! I checked...

    Fault Code 12

So.......my new relay arrived today. I had a devil of a time removing the electrical wire connector from the old relay as the connector was totally corroded where the female side of the spade connectors on the cable side slide over the male pins on the relay. I cleaned off the female connectors...

    Fault Code 12

Oops. Post #10, continued: Do that by bridging the gap from the positive battery connection on the solenoid to the output connection from the solenoid to the starter motor. This gap can be bridged using an insulated screwdriver. Result: Starter turned, code 12 cleared, no longer have an orange...

    Fault Code 12

I tested the starter relay (aka starter solenoid) according to the procedure described in my Haynes Service and Repair Manual Chapter 8 Section 25, paragraph 4. Conclusion: Relay is good. Did further research. A suggestion from another forum: bypass the relay by connecting sending power...

    Fault Code 12

So, yesterday I removed the right side panel and inspected the wires around the crankshaft cover. I found a that the wire was kinked but not pinched. I opened up the casing around the two wires and saw a spot where the cover on the white wire was rubbed on the surface. I could not tell if that...

    Fault Code 12

As per Rosskean's suggestion in post #2, I worked on Fault #14 first. All the small vacuum tubes were removed, inspected and cleaned. They were all pristine. As for the possibility of the timing chain skipping a tooth.....when I changed the CCT, the first thing I did after removing the...

    Fault Code 12

I am the third owner of a 2007 FJR1300A. I purchased it in May of 2020 with 49,600 km on the odometer. I have kept up with all the required maintenance as per the owner's manual. All the work done on the bike since I purchased it has been done by me. The most recent upgrade was in Jan of 2023 at...

    Noise from 3.5rpm

I listened to the audio. My 2007 sounds the same. In fact my 2004 Honda ST1300 also sounded like that, only louder. I agree with Mihalis fjr above!
