Steering Head Roller Bearing - Upgrade or Boondoogle?

My '99 ZRX1100 came with tapered bearings.

Seals for Timken or other tapered roller steering head bearings?

110,000 here and so far, so good. I still have no play fore and aft and no roughness whatsoever in the headstock. Many of my bikes with rollers up front have developed a detent straight ahead, but there's not a sign of it on the FJR. I would expect the detent to form in states with very rough...

This hopefully will keep mice outa my air cleaner.

We live in a rural area and have no problem with mice. It sometimes amazes me, but we rarely see any evidence and none have taken up residence in our cars, motorcycles, or RVs. We do, however, have bunch of snakes. They're encouraged as long as they stay outside. :) And yes, I know...

    Extremely low MPG

My ZRX has a petcock with a reserve position, but it's been on reserve since 1999. :) I've done that with bikes with petcocks since about 1984 when I got my first bike with a gas gauge. It was an '83 Suzuki, and the petcock was behind some bodywork on the left side behind a stupid little door...

    Extremely low MPG

It would not only be different for different people on different bikes, it would be different for the same person on the same bike under varying conditions. I've had the low fuel warning start flashing at 175 miles on a freeway in Arizona running 85 mph into a strong headwind. And I've run 225...

    Update/resolved & thx. —> Tire mount / balance weight(s) question

Now that I read that, that's the most logical reason for having them on opposite sides -- he just failed to remove the old before balancing. I've read that too about Michelins being so close there's no dot needed anymore, but to me at least, it just makes no sense that rotating the tire on the...

    Update/resolved & thx. —> Tire mount / balance weight(s) question

I do my own as well and like BigOgre I don't see the logic of having 8 on once side and 4 opposite. The last one I did at home needed eight to balance, so I broke the bead and turned the tire on the rim 180 degrees and balanced it with two. That was a Michelin PR4. Michelin doesn't put...

    TPS Source?

I did take my old one apart and there was wear in a small portion of the very flimsy looking plating. It wasn't terribly obvious to me, but I examined it with an 8X lupe and could see it. The service manual advises to handle the new one carefully and if you drop it, don't use it. If you...

    TPS Source?

As to the original question you can just google "yamaha 3P6-85885-00-00" and choose one.

    Extremely low MPG

The MPG on my '13 is actually pretty close over a long period of time -- at least it was the one time I checked it. :) If I reset it and check it on one tank, it might be several tenths off. But on a trip some time back I decided to check it across several tanks, and it was within a couple of...

    Extremely low MPG

I had been riding for 19 years when I finally got a bike with a fuel gauge. I'm still in the habit of zeroing the trip meter when I fill up, and I can do a better job of estimating my range than the bike does. :) The fuel gauge on mine bugged me for a while. I didn't like the idea that it...

I noticed that too. If that running in slow traffic I wonder how much time he spends just sitting still.

    Oil filter

I used to have an RV with a Ford V10, and I'd oil and tighten that filter 3/4 turn after the gasket touched. The last time I removed it I had to put a cheater bar on the wrench and anchor myself against the front tire to get it off. I bet I did put 100 lb-ft on it before it moved. :) I've got...

    Oil filter

Like Ross, I just don't have have the grip strength anymore to trust "hand tight." I install the filter until the gasket just touches then tighten 3/4 turn. Sometimes I can manage that by hand, and other times I have to use a tool like a cap wrench I hate the cap wrench for removal, though...

Bubbles in coolant overflow tank - Coolant overflows

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. I had to add a few ounces of coolant every day to get home from a trip west. A radiator cap solved the problem.

    Clutch Slipping!?

Have you had the lever off? I had the same issue on my Kawasaki with a stock lever, but there was a tiny speck of trash in the hole in the bushing that kept the push rod from seating properly.

    Flashing ABS Light

I called my dealer, and they ordered the part. I took the bike by when it came in. I did ask if I could come get it and install it myself. Noooo ....

    Rear shock -- 2013

I'm replacing the rear shock on my 2013 with an OEM shock. The new shock had Hard/Soft adjuster attached, but the cables were not in the brackets (A and B). I set the cables in place and adjusted as much slack out as I could, but even with the nuts turned as far as I can (B), I still have...

    FJR 1300 2016 - Throttle Linkage Issue

I'm having a bit of a problem understanding why he'd install a "quick action" throttle on an FJR later than a 2013 model. The S, or Sport, mode is essentially a quick throttle anyway. If it were mine I'd just put it back stock and start from there.
