Motorcycle Wind Noise Comparison Test Should You Wear Earplugs

What??? Oh, sorry I'll put my hearing aids in now, dear! (What I say to my wife all the time). Ruined my ears long ago shooting handguns w/o hearing protection. Only takes a few rounds of a .357 Magnum!!! Religious about hearing protection now.........................better late than never...

    DIY valve clearance check/adjust

Henry July 17 could work! Remember the check needs to be done on a "cold" engine, so you'll probably want to spend the night before the check in Salmon, so your engine is relatively cool when we start to "tear into it". Just keep me posted via a PM! Bob P

    DIY valve clearance check/adjust

Just finished a valve check on a forum members bike last week (KBacon). He had 34,720 miles on his 2007, and no adjustment needed! I have the TBS "tool" (Motion Pro Sync Pro), and an extra head cover gasket (which you probably won't need), and all other tools. I also have a shim kit. However...

    Tire Balance

+1, static balancing seems to work great for me (on several sets of tires), as stated above, up to 130 mph, so far.............very smooth!

    Tire Balance

Brings back memories of taking my FJR to a local (Southern UT) moto shop for tire changes/balances. I finally noticed that the tire weights never changed positions on the wheel after tire changes. Also, they charged $70 to mount/balance. This prompted me to buy a No Mar changer and balancer...

A one time decent leak of gear oil on rear wheel possible?

Another thing to consider is that it might be Moly grease that has "sprayed" out from the final drive splines. As noted many times on this forum, it's prudent to apply a small amount of grease to the splines during tire changes. I've found that if I get "carried away" with my grease application...

    Forks leaking?

Be more aggressive. You might try a plastic putty knife to lever the guard off, if you're afraid a screwdriver will damage the fork. (I just use a screwdriver) And/or try this: grab the guard with one hand while pushing/twisting and then utilize the putty knife, or screwdriver to "break"...

    Forks leaking?

FYRFYGHTR, Type this into google: fork seals site:fjrforum.com You will be "hooked up" to so much information that you'll be reading for days or weeks. You'll find that the seal mate/film strip can work for awhile, but eventually, if not sooner, you'll have to go ahead and replace the seals...

maybe a weird question about tires

There's some great observations and advice in this thread. A couple years ago, I noticed that my local tire store, when I lived in St. George, UT, just never moved the existing weights over a couple of tire changes. Plus, they charged a premium for tire changes/balancing. I got suspicious, and...

    Need assistance with suspension settings

+1, That's basically what I was sayin'. Try the revised settings via "Bin o Facts", which should help a lot. If that doesn't work have the fork tubes serviced, and if that doesn't work go to what others have posted above. leedavis, IMO you are giving excellent advice!!

    Need assistance with suspension settings

Also check out the Bin of Facts for the Gen II. There's some recommended front and rear suspension settings in there. Try them. When my Gen II had about 24k miles on it I serviced the fork tubes replacing the bushings, seals, and re-filled them with Motul Light 5wt Fork Oil. The difference...
