PC III and O2 Sensor Question

I never had any surging on my '04 when I used a PC3 so I kept the O2 sensor connected. I benefited by the power commander fueling change at mid and WOT conditions and when at cruise it went back to closed loop mode and I the bike maintained the stoich AF ratio and my mpg was just like stock...

That's not going to work on sport touring tires

Ergonomic mods for Gen1 - Please advise

yea you're like the ideal height for the FJR. I feel too tall for it but still like it. Get a seat mod so you can sit closer. Expensive but you'll enjoy it every ride. It will most likely never be quiet like your RT. You might find a short shield works best for you at your height to keep...

FJR sat for year and a half

Don't have to do anything to it, certainly don't change the rear end oil again as you just did that. Sitting doesn't do anything bad to that heavy weight oil it is used in rear diffs in trucks for 100,000+ miles and years and years.

    2013 Spark Plug Change

I run the regular spark plugs 20k miles. No difference in performance or fuel mileage right up until the change. Have done that for 3 cycles now.

Final Drive Swap: 6th gear solution?

Nice mod find! and glad it has helped people enjoy their highway riding a bit more. I often searched for another gear on '04. My '08 just seems perfect. Like another guy said for me, in twisty riding, I wouldn't want 3rd gear any taller than it is because 2nd is just too high strung on the...

New Owner of 2010 - Suspension Feels Harsh

When you're on a rough road, use your abs and legs to keep your weight off your hands so you're not jarring down on your wrists. Having said that, I think my '08 rides awesome, even on crap roads. I'll swap with guys on sport bikes and they think I'm riding a flying lazy boy. I do have...

High speed engine vibs, normal or not

70ish mph there is a bit of a common 4k buzz on the FJR. For me it's when I wind out 3rd gear my seat buzz's. I'm talking 5-9k.

Shipped 05 FJR from UK...won't start with PC plugged in

The PC has its own independent ground wire. Won't run without it. Is it grounded?

Gas Mileage dropping - no reason I can see

The air pressure sensor defaults to a very standard pressure reading if it fails. The only time you'd notice it causing an issue is if you were riding up into unusual elevation.

Gas Mileage dropping - no reason I can see

I would take the bike back and get the O2 sensor tested by any local auto shop. Or just replace it if it's not too much. When they go, they fail lean, which is safe as the engine starts to dump more fuel than it really needs. If you haven't owned the bike since new you can lift the tank and...

    Minimizing wheel weights -- important?

PR2 and PR3 are not marked. Can't speak for PR4 but I'm sure they aren't either. 15-40 grams is common. If it was more than 60 grams I'd think about rotating the tire. That's just cause it would make me feel better. With a rim and tire weight of 20-25lbs an extra 1 or 2 ounces is not going...

Gas Mileage dropping - no reason I can see

9mpg's is not 5mpg's. Keep us updated what they find. All I can do is ponder, but I have heard of things like leaking fuel injectors. If you're getting occasional cutting off from the bike I would worry if a spark plug is getting blasted by too much fuel temporarily. Eh, fun to speculate...

Rear Brake has no effect on 08 GenII

I guess according to him he blasts as hard as he can on the straights and then has to hammer down on the brakes in order to not kill himself in the twisties, and then contemplates it all with a nestea later. I kid, I kid... I better stop before I offend somebody... I don't know nothin about no...

Rear Brake has no effect on 08 GenII

Whoever said anything about not changing it fred? Thanks for saying the same thing I did using 10x the words as usual.

Rear Brake has no effect on 08 GenII

Haven't even read past page one but I'll go on record to the OP that there is NO need to change DOT4 brake fluid annually if you don't track your bike or car and bring it up to boiling temps. Go to any well known mechanic and ask them if you need to change your street driven FJR's DOT4 annually...

Gas Mileage dropping - no reason I can see

Your brakes and bearings aren't causing your mpg drop. You'd probably smell the brake pad if it was hung up causing that much of a consistent drop over a tank of fuel. Check for a vacuum leak perhaps if someone else was dinking around with your bike and airbox. If the mpg is this considerable...

Do not re-spring the OEM Shock

Fred, The OEM rear shock is listed as only being adjustable for rebound dampening. Turning the knob up should not adjust compression dampening. Pista - for those who do not 'track' a bike, simply swapping in reasonably stiffer springs has pleased many people.

Do not re-spring the OEM Shock

The fact that you're 280lbs I think that will help quite a bit with the rebound dampening right there. I've known someone to do a new spring on a Gen1 shock and he was happy with it at about 215lbs. While it may not be a 'Penske' or whatnot I think you WOULD benefit from a stronger spring on...
