Fixed a bunch of complaints about my FJR.

I manage without a centerstand. In the garage I use spools and a lift; total cost is less than most centerstands. When touring I use a quickstand that folds down to almost nothing. So yes, slightly more inconvenient, but not a dealmaker by any means. Yes, so I make sure to stop when I get to 500

    New (to me) Kawasaki Z1000

I''ve got a 2011 N1K and there is some vibration at 7k but that's 105 mph in 6th and I don't spend a lot of time there. In my opinion the engine is smoother than the FJR; but sensitivity to vibrations can be a very personal thing.

    Riding with Replacement Parts

Thanks for the reminder ... need to go for a run today to keep everything working well.

All right, it's official: I'm making the call.

I'm with James on this one. Granted I don't live in or commute in an urban environment, but the forays I have taken have made it pretty clear there is no real practical advantage to taking the bike to offset the increase in danger, at least in most cases.

    Woman's riding gear Question

Next time (if there is one .. I doubt it ...), I'm going to buy the riding gear first, and find a woman that fits.

    Woman's riding gear Question

Not true. They will tailor to MOST dimensions, but there are limits. Before they started offering women's sizing, my wife tried to fit into a suit. She's short (5'4"), mid-weight (150 lbs) with hips and boobs and no gut. Anything that accommodated her hips was way too big on top and legs too...

    U-Joint and Drive Shaft Discussion

Trying to keep the joint straight is probably just a thought exercise. Has anyone heard of the FJR u-joint failing? The yamaha engineers put splines on both ends of the u-joint. I'm guessing they are there are for ease of assembly and being tolerant of what little potential sliding action there...

    Motorcycle Observations in Europe

A few years ago I visited a client in Indonesia and got some video footage of traffic - blog is linked below, note the videos, how traffic just moves around slowly. https://norskiesblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/transportation.html

Boondocking on a Bike? MC travel on the cheap

A little late to weigh in here, but here goes: If you're old enough get the Golden Eagle pass. One-time fee and you'll get half off national forest campsites, access to national parks etc. My dad has one and it saved us a bundle. If you ge a small stove (I use the MS pocket rocket) and want...

Fixed a bunch of complaints about my FJR.

They ARE wide! They don't tuck in as nicely as the on the FJR. The 2014+ N1K's tuck in better too; but for the price difference between this nearly new 2011 and a 2014, I'm OK with it. Another difference between the FJR and N1K becomes apparent the more I ride the Ninja: speed estimation. After...

    Oh snap!

They can rent mine! Maybe I should set up a "rent to own" deal ... who knows how long it will take to fix that problem?

Fixed a bunch of complaints about my FJR.

The vibes on this one aren't too bad. I don't have any through the bard, some tingles in the seat and a bit in the pegs. Certainly not as smooth as the FJR but nothing objectionable either. When I get a chance I'm going to run some techron through it and then do a TBS and see if that helps ... I...

Fixed a bunch of complaints about my FJR.

I'm definitely enjoying it. Having been on the FJR (and VFR before it), it is taking a bit of getting used to the new mount ... braking and cornering limits, when the front wheel comes up, etc... I'ts not as bad as I thought. I'm with state farm, and insurance went from $219 to $345 per year...

Fixed a bunch of complaints about my FJR.

I've been thinking about this and realized that this may be one of the last big HP bikes without the electronics. No TC, no ABS. I wouldn't mind ABS though ... that would be very nice. Interestingly, my cars (2005 Outback, 2001 Prelude) are pretty basic too (ABS, no TC or vehicle stability...

Fixed a bunch of complaints about my FJR.

Ok I did some digging. It appears the correct Ohlins for the 1st get is a YA-342. The main difference is that the YA-342 is 1.5mm shorter and has a piggyback rather than a remote one. From what I can tell, it *might* work. I would expect that a shock w/o the piggyback would fit where one with a...

Fixed a bunch of complaints about my FJR.

If you've been reading my posts, you know that I have a pile of complaints about the FJR, such as: 1. Throttle lurch. PC3 + G2 + unwind helped, but did not eliminate it. 2. Weight. 3. Wind noise and helmet buffetting. 6 screens and a couple spacers helped but didn't elminate it. 4. Not...

I should know better but I'm asking for an opinion

First thought: Wear what's comfy and protects you. Second thought: Upper midwest fashion clothes dictates chaps, leather vest, fringe and no helmet. Wear anything else and you're a squid in the eyes of majority of the population. Third thought: What you DO (or not DO) is going to have more...

    Cheap alternative to Ventz

looks great, all you need now is a screen to keep the stinging flying things out of your armpits. I've considered these to use with the 'stich but I seem to get enough airflow through there as it is.
