    Getting a new bike, beamer...

I won’t get the bike until March, which is ok because winter lasts until late April here..

    Snow is bullshit

I live in Winnipeg, where temperatures in January & February are -20c during the day and easily reach -40c at night. Winter is bullshit.

Tracer 9 GT as FJR Replacement?

I went to my local Yamaha dealer to investigate a Tracer 9GT and asked them for a quote for my ‘17 FJR as a trade-in…They refused as they already have an used FJR on the floor. So, I went to the BMW dealer who happily gave me a trade-in value.

    Other Drive Shaft Sport Tourers?

Triumph Tiger 1200 comes in a road version and it’s shaft drive. The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello is shaft drive, it will be released sometime this winter or next spring..

    Leaning...

I’ve been riding for slightly over 50 years. Last year I took a 3 day course at the FAST school at Shannonville. Day 1 was humbling. By the afternoon of Day 2 my lap times were mid-pack, not bad for a 67 yr old, kinda out of shape old guy dicing it up with the over-eager 20 yr olds. I highly...

Is a FJR a money thing?

My other bike is a 1953 Vincent. I selected the FJR because I wanted a modern reliable bike with low maintenance costs. Change the fluids, add gas, ride. Repeat.

    Wanted: Bike with character

I have a bike with “character”. It spent the winter in Minneapolis getting some of the character removed, this was achieved by the application of liberal doses of U.S dollars. When it gets delivered back to me I’ll ride it for a few months, then decide if it still has too much character..if it...

    The problem with old bikes…

Amazing…I shifted into 5th at 110mph and it gave me a swift kick in the ass..really torquey as you would expect from 1330cc

    The problem with old bikes…

Oh, you mean like this…1330cc, 5 speed. Now owned by Ryan Reynolds. It was loaned to me for a day a few years ago after my Rapide broke down..

    The problem with old bikes…

..and I still might. The idea behind having it being seen by a restoration person is that upon its return I will either fall back in love with it, or sell it. Either way, the work done will either make it more pleasant to ride, or more valuable to sell..

    The problem with old bikes…

and just like a heritage home, occasionally it needs upkeep, which costs money. I hope that it will give me pleasure for a few more years, if not, then I will recoup my investment..

    The problem with old bikes…

For the last two years I haven’t ridden my other bike because I was working on it. Several months ago I put it back on the road, and was immediately unimpressed. A 68yr old bike doesn't have the suspension or the power of the FJR. So, my Vincent has gone to a Vincent restoration expert for a few...

    New Bike Choice

Buy 2 bikes. One with soul…and an FJR for comfort, range and reliability. I have a ‘53 Vincent because it’s cool..and a’17ES because it’s damn reliable and stupid fast.

    May 2022 ride plan..

Wise advice…This will be my 3rd trip to Scotland, first on a motorcycle though. I arrive on the 6th of May, before the tourists and most of the midges. Klim Latitude gear will protect me from the rain. My route is designed to take me on single tracks as much as possible. Every time I go to...
