    Other Drive Shaft Sport Tourers?

Friend had the 1250 GS. He says it's the first motorcycle he's had that makes him want to give up motorcycling. Activity looking to replace it. Would go back to the FJR if they were still available here (he's had two in the past).

    May 2022 ride plan..

In May the tourists will be in abundance, and so will the midges. And of course, being Scotland, it will rain at some stage. Or possibly the whole time. So, make sure you have decent gear for the weather, midge spray for the midges, and patience for the traffic. And don't try sampling every...

She's Gone: musings of a former FJR owner

Sorry to hear, but if you can't enjoy it, no point keeping it. I strongly suspect mine will be going next year, not because of its comfort levels, more to do with my riding ability.  It's a shame, but that's life.

Getting the urge for a change

Friend of mine had a Multistrada. He found it immense fun. BUT maintenance and reliability both caused him no end of problems. One example, he got me to help him adjust his chain. Needed a special tool (luckily supplied in his toolkit). It took much longer than I would consider reasonable, plus...

    MyMaps.google.com Tutorial

Be aware Google are stopping Drive sometime this year, at least for free use. Shame, I've used it a lot to map some of my recorded routes.

    Good news, bad news ...

This is very much a good and bad story, hence the somewhat uninformative title. But I'll leave the reader to decide which parts are which. Three weeks ago was my birthday. Seventy-six. My kids decided to give me a bit of a birthday treat, they bought tickets for the British MotoGP race...

    Riding affects neck/head movement

In my case, quite the reverse, I believe riding has made/kept my neck more flexible. Whenever I spend more than a couple of weeks not riding, my neck definitely stiffens, can take a few rides to recover. My rides do generally have a lot of over-the-shoulder "life-saver" checks (plus much...

Riding a motorcycle is highly risky, right?

Look after her, she's one of the good ones.

Riding a motorcycle is highly risky, right?

Lies, damned lies and statistics ... Unfortunately, I couldn't read the linked article, all I get is: Is that "1 in 770" for those who ride a motorcycle or is it for the general population? Makes quite a difference to the interpretation. Anyway, I maintain they are dangerous.

Riding, why we Ride, Safety - saw this on Quora

Well, I'm still riding at 75, so you should have a few years left. As for group rides, I started with a commercial organisation, when I was relatively inexperienced. Very fortunate to go for this one, it was a pot luck choice at a motorcycle show. It was run by a very experienced rider (by...

    Time for a new bike...

Not in my experience. Having gone through this a couple of times: (Click on image for larger view) Checked the oil afterwards: Not a sign of any water.

Stuck in Guerro Negro - the KLR Krapped out!

Tank vacuum? Is there a hiss when you open the filler cap after it's cut out?

Riding stats for the year 2017

Owing to family health issues, probably the lowest of anyone on this forum who hasn't actually been laid up, 3871 miles. (I know the exact mileage since I happened to fill up on 1st January and on 31st December.) Hope to do better this year.

    Damnable Road Salt

Mine is there to be ridden (when it's not icy). So I accept the salt. I will hose it down if I have the opportunity, but that's not every salty ride. The FJR is better than many for coping with salt, mostly it's just a few fasteners that look a little tired, but make sure the rear suspension...

    First Bike?

Tiger Cub, a hand-me-down from my brother. Started riding it at 16 (1958). Like FJRay, found it somewhat unreliable. Seemed to spend more time with it in pieces than riding it. Cork clutch friction inserts, big end bearings - seemed to change them as often as the 1500 mile oil change interval...

    Bigger, Faster, safer bikes.

Rated at 8 horsepower, but that is not necessarily the same as real (brake) horsepower, don't know that. And your grammar was perfect.

    Bigger, Faster, safer bikes.

What I wrote was probably out of date. The power of the bike depends on age, experience and license type. The rules change fairly often. They are very complex, impossible to sum up in a few words. Suffice it to say, we see young riders wobbling around at their maximum of 25 mph on 40mph roads...

    Bigger, Faster, safer bikes.

There is friend of mine, a very experienced and expert motorcyclist. When his son started to ride, his bike has to be restricted to something like 45hp, this is a British legal requirement for a new rider. First thing my friend did was to (illegally) remove the restriction, because it was, he...
