    Needing advice

Soon I'll be selling my 2006 w/ABS, 27k on the motor (from a 2007). The rest of the bike has 98k on it. I'm asking $4500, I think this is a better deal than the $4900 2003, despite the distance from you. If you're really looking to save some $$$ you should negotiate a much lower price on that...

    Gonna Test Ride an FJR...

The 06-07 years had significantly worse throttle lurch than the other years. Plan for a $300+ power commander (3 or 5) if you get an 06-07.

What to look for when Shopping for a used FJR ?

The 2006 (and 2007) had a bad throttle lurch from off-to-on throttle transitions (like when you get on the throttle entering a corner). Pay particular attention to this; if it bothers you, and the bike doesn't have a power commander, plan to spend $300 for a PC3/PC5 to fix it. Also, look for...

    It's Not a BMW, Honest!

I've gotten the "is that a BMW?" question about the FJR too. Funniest was "Is that a Harley?" and pointed at my bright yellow 2000 VFR. WTF ?!? Now with the NInja 1000, fitted with sidecase carriers, "Do you stunt? Is that why you have those bars on the back of the bike?"...

    loading FJR in a pickup

If I were you, I'd get a good friend to ride on the back of the FJR to the dealership and drive the truck home for you.

    Best FJR mileage ever

The lowest I've had was 24 mpg. Going west through SoDak (i.e. uphill) on I-90 @ 85mph, a very strong headwind, VStream windshield, an intake cam off by a tooth, and the O2 sensor plugged in. Even my brother on my 2000 VFR was getting MPG in the 30's (we usually get about 50mpg on the VFR). But...

If You Could Reinvent The FJR What Would You Change?

I used to have that problem too, occasionally on the VFR then more so on the FJR. There are three solutions; two free, the other expensive, and they work together very well: 1. Get the balls of your feet on the pegs when you're cornering fast. 2. Stay on the throttle through the corner - just...

    Ridin' in the Rain

My Roadcrafter dries out super fast. Day after day of riding in the rain ... hang it in the hotel wet, it will be dry in the morning. Out west it only takes a couple minutes of no rain for it to dry. I got the 'stich when I lived in Oregon. I have a Firstgear Kilimanjaro that worked well in the...

    Ridin' in the Rain

I've had experiences both ways; UNDER the cuff and water is forced up under the sleeve by the wind. But in town (low speeds) this doesn't happen. On the highways I go over-the-cuff as the airflow keeps it from running into my gloves. Didn't Held a dual-cuff design on one of their gloves, where...

If You Could Reinvent The FJR What Would You Change?

Allow me to suggest that it is the STEERING GEOMETRY and wheelbase that has more to do with highway stability than weight - especially when we're talking about little differences between 550 lbs and 650 lbs. It will be more nimble in the corners and not noticely less stable on the highway. Tell...

    Ridin' in the Rain

When on long trips I have a little 1/4 cover just to keep the rain off the seat. When riding I use a bead-rider as it helps the water drain from underneath me instead of sitting in a puddle of water. I've got an older aerostich which isn't technically waterproof, but thanks to the extensive...

    Do Fjr engine last forever?

I was thinking more along the lines of carbon buildup preventing valves from closing entirely, or caking up on the piston head and displacing air/fuel, particularly in the squish zone. Most likely though is that the OP just got used to the power ;-)

    Do Fjr engine last forever?

You can say that again. Both engines I have opened up (24k and 95K) still had the cross-hatching on the cylinder walls. I really don't think this is an area to worry about. If the OP can establish a loss of power, I'd chalk it up to carbon deposits or perhaps a cam being a tooth off.

If You Could Reinvent The FJR What Would You Change?

I'm thinking more dramatic changes: V4 engine from the VMax, using VFR-like gear driven cams. Or the VFR1200 engine itself. Side-mounted radiators (like the VFR) so the engine can be moved futher forward to get more weight on the front wheel Revised shock linkage to free up space under the seat...

Test rode 2014 RT - nice, but.....

My experiences on the Gen2 involved buying a whole pile of them and cutting down a stocker until finding the best compromise was a tuning block, combined with either a CalSci shorty (summer) or a VStream (spring/fall). I don't get very bad buffetting but there is still tons of noise, more than...

Test rode 2014 RT - nice, but.....

I've heard the wind management is like magic on the RT's. Clean, quiet, no buffeting etc, which is the exact opposite of the FJR with a stock windshield.

6500 RPM and it goes crazy

I'm not aware that our wet-clutches have an expected life span? It's pretty rare for a clutch to need replacement unless it has been subjected to repeated drag launches. This may just be a red herring; my vote is also TPS.

Soon to be owner seeking help

Don't let the rest of the folks here scare you. Don't whack the throttle open when leaned over, if the ties are cold or wet, etc. Basically don't be an idiot. It's a heavy bike and it has a flat and predictable torque delivery. If there's anything to be cautious of are the front brakes; they...

    Happy with your "fuse-block" location?

Nope. Nope. In the tail section. Easy to get to. Nope. Not that hard to do, then again I don't have a pre-make harness to compare against. I ended up getting the relay to run off the license plate light, so it is ON when the key is ON. SLK50 used the headlight wire, which will also work, but...
