    2013 FJR Missing Cover

I think the main functions of that part are to somewhat restrain the wire harness (the one that gets in the way when removing the air filter) and also provides a mounting point for one of the plastic pop-rivets that support the side cover, part #1 here...

Nah. FJR’s on unpaved roads? That’s crazy talk! 😎

    FJR1300 To Be Retired

Good to see a few old names piping up. Being a CBA guy, my 2014 only rolled over 60k this week. Poor thing has to share time with three others. But that means I don’t have to worry about future FJR availability because I’ll be dead before I need another one.

Need Throttle Body Assembly Expert Advice

For those in need of throttle body cleaning, I successfully clean my ‘05’s TBs. It was at around 75k miles, as I recall. The only things I used was brake cleaner and an old soft toothbrush. Counterintuitively, brake cleaner is gentler on the rubber bits than carburetor cleaner is. Before...

3rd Gen ES Suspension Problems Poll

Thanks Griff.  Yeah, I was figuring on having to put a non-ES relay arm in with the temporary shock.  Didn’t realize the upper mount was different.  Must just be different spacers since the same frame has a non-ES configuration. I’m not in need of a rebuild yet.  Just like to have my ducks in a...

3rd Gen ES Suspension Problems Poll

Well, that gets back around to the idea of jamming an old non-ES shock in there while the ES shock is being rebuilt.  Used to do that when the Penske needed rebuilding. Usually when a shock is losing performance it is the damping getting weaker.  With the old Penske you would get “clicker...

3rd Gen ES Suspension Problems Poll

I’m at 55k miles now and have no symptoms of impending failure or degradation of performance.  It seems like most failure reports are leaks or acute fails and not chronic reduced performance.    With as few total failures as have being reported here, I would want to just wait and “fix on...

3rd Gen ES Suspension Problems Poll

Which gives me an idea… What shocks might we be able to safely substitute temporarily for an ES rear if/when it needs to be serviced?  There are lots of non-ES stock shocks floating around after people have upgraded to a Penske or Ohlins.     i suppose a few measurements and spring...

Any idea how the piston got nicked?

    Elevated Idle, periodic

Just logged on here to see if anyone has been experiencing this symptom.  It has been happening on my 2014 w/ 55k miles lately.  Seems most prevalent early in a ride.  Have experienced it a handful of times.  Always seems to go away and not return until next time I take it out.  My rides are...

    End of an ERA

It seems my original FJR love is going to a new owner finally.  When I bought my 2014 “lipstick” red version new, I just couldn’t let the old ‘05 go for what they offered me in trade.  Imagine, with all of the farkles and mods they only wanted to give me $3000 in trade.  C’mon man! So I was...

    End of an ERA

I think I’m similar in age to you, Dale.  But perhaps not quite as well preserved? I’ve also noticed that the big gurl is a chore to move about these day, having had one hip replaced already and the second one not too far behind. But then every time I’ve wrestled the FJR out and onto the open...

    A first time for everything

In all of my past winters I always just parked the FJR in our attached but unheated garage and mostly left it alone except for cycling a battery tender between it and the multiple other bikes.     Now in retrospect my 2014 never has started quite as eagerly at any time as my ‘05 always did...

    2014 ES Reliability Concern

Oh crap.  Now I have to worry about my horn failing?  Will there be a safety recall for this? Oh wait, nevermind.  I replaced my single wimpy stock horn with a pair of PIAA sports horns back in 2015.  Whew!

Is the preload on the rear shock on a ES adequate ?

@Mortenk - Yeah, that’s not the way springs work.  Any spring will deflect a given distance per amount of force applied throughout its entire length until it becomes spring bound.     But even without that, when you add spring preload you are adding a spacer (or variable spring seat) under the...

Is the preload on the rear shock on a ES adequate ?

Regarding the non-linearity of the preload settings on an ES:  I noticed that phenomenon within the first couple times changing the setting.  For one thing, it takes much longer to change between 1up w/ bags to 2up than it does between the other two steps.  The other way it becomes obvious is...

    2020 FJR1300

That was just on the early ones.  Third time around (3rd Gen+) was the charm with no need for fuel mapping.  Even if they never sell another new FJR there will be nearly new ones available for a very long time.  Likely longer than I will be.

Let’s hope so.  Why would US riders care if it meets Euro standards?

    6 speed tranny problems?

I don’t see how having to shift more often in the twisties could be considered a positive attribute.  Since the engine is essentially the same, you probably don’t really have to shift more often when romping on it, but you do have to shift at least once more to go from a stop to top gear...

    6 speed tranny problems?

Warchild’s description of the six-speed sounds like an endorsement for the old five speed.
