    Seat removal without a key

We had a ZRX rider lock his key under his seat on a ride. I pulled mine next to him and removed the seat and borrowed a long screwdriver from a friendly guy in a truck near by. Then using mine as a model we were able to spring his seat up enough to reach in with the screwdriver at just the...

Do you all get “challenged” at stop lights?

I don't know that I've got a specific amount of time. I just give it a good look in both directions and make sure it's safe before going. I stopped at a light near my home a few months ago, and the guy behind me passed me to run it. Like vzhq16 said above, I treat it like a 4-way stop.

Do you all get “challenged” at stop lights?

Several years back -- actually several decades -- a customer at the local Yamaha shop where my wife worked was killed when he took off at a light just when it changed. The light changed, he went, and the person trying to make the yellow from the other direction hit him. I know that at least a...

FJR's don't like dirt - let alone floods and ...

I think lower center of gravity, wider front tire, more upright riding position, and wider bars all helped.

FJR's don't like dirt - let alone floods and ...

I live on a dirt road and do fine on it until another layer of gravel is laid on top of it. Then, for a few days until it packs, the FJR is a serious handful. Oddly, my much heavier Goldwing was easier to handle on loose stuff.

    FJR1300 top speed?

It's logical that a speedometer would be off a percentage rather than some fixed amount. If, for instance, it were always 2 mph fast, it'd register 2 mph at a stop ;) I actually had friend, a police officer, check my ZRX at 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70, and it was almost exactly 10% fast at all...

    FJR1300 top speed?

I'll never know because, well, I don't need to. ;) But I do know my '13 will put 120 on the speedometer in 3rd gear. I've had bikes that would run faster in 4th than 5th, but the FJR makes such power I've wondered. I know my bike does 75 indicated at 4000 rpm, and peak horsepower is in the...

    Mileage

That's it in a nutshell. Though it'd be nice to have a gauge that's perfectly accurate at all levels, if it at least acts the same way all the time I can deal with it. I know I can do 40 more miles after my '13 starts crying "feed me", and it'll still have a gallon or so on board. And it's...

    2022 knocked over

I had a very slow-speed fall-over when I first got my bike, and Progressive paid off very well for me too. The covered every piece that had even the most minor scratch and didn't quibble at all with the shop's estimate. Then, the next year my rate went up something like 30% as I remember. I...

Why online motorcycle forums (fora?) are dying, so claims this article

Check out the ZRX forum :). That bike's not been brought to the US since the 2005 model, and it's still the most active forum I visit.

    FJR Mileage Milestones

    Well, I rolled 100,000 miles yesterday. 2013 model adopted March 2, 2013.

    2022 Break-in oil change/filter

After reading threads like this on various forums / email lists for some 30 years, I'm not that easily amazed. It still interests me, though, how worked up people get when someone else doesn't do things the same way they do.

    Name that FJR

I'd probably have called the 2007 "The double-0 seven", but that's just me. :)

    Name that FJR

We do the same.  We're a 2-person, 5-vehicle family.  Names are "The Car", "The Truck", "The FJR", "The ZRX", and "The RV".  I do have a pet name for the RV that I use sometimes -- "Slimy **** piece of ****."  I'm not too fond of the RV.  😐

    Givi V46 Affects Handling

It's all rather counterintuitive to me.  I use the box because my laptop won't go into either of the side cases.  I've not weighed it loaded in a while, but I suspect it's overloaded when I carry it.  Yet, no problems at all.  I can even let go of the bars with the cruise on and hold the bike in...

    Givi V46 Affects Handling

When traveling I carry a V56 Givi on mine.  The first time I took off with it on the bike I noticed a twitchy feeling in the front, but I got used to it in a few miles and did a 3000 mile trip to the Rockies with no problems.  I run locally without it  and still travel with it, and I don't even...

Acquiring Boxed FJR in the PNW?

As far as break in I can't imagine that riding one home at legal speeds would be a problem.

    2014 ES Reliability Concern

My horn went out after just a couple of years.  I was riding with a buddy and honked it to get his attention and thought to myself that the horn was so wimpy I couldn't even hear it myself with ear plugs.  Then I honked it in my shop and nothing.  So that's why I couldn't hear it while riding. ...
