has anyone tried or read about letting more air into the airbox. when changing my air filter it just seems that the air inlet is small. most bikes i had previous to the fjr had much larger airbox and opening. also if it was done was the performance improved.

To expand on Rad's comments...

On carburetor 4-strokes, mo' air is where it's at. But that's mainly because the air velocity necessary to produce good fuel atomization inherently means restricted air flow. So anything you can do to reduce negative pressure on the filter side of the carb is golden gravy horsepower.

But on injected 4-strokes, the CAD design systems and engineers seem to do a pretty darn good job of getting the most normally-aspirated air into the system. Even the restriction of the air filter gets taken into account accurately. So unless somebody just screws up and botches the design, there usually isn't much there without adding a blower or ram intake. And Yamaha doesn't make that mistake very often.
