I'm almost set for this little shindig. Just need an oil change.

So I'm headed to ride Lake Superior afterwards. Gotta be in MSP by 6/19. Anybody else headed east afterwards?

Headed back to Florida to head back to work for a couple weeks. Then I will be riding to Iowa / MSP for another 2 weeks of riding

and attend the IBR finishers banquet. And hopefully do a 4 days ride on I-90.

The far north latitudes are magical in June. Winter has barely left, and Spring is in full force, but daylight lasts foreever. I was amazed at the light when traveling the U.P. of Michigan and the northern shores at this time of year. Wish I was traveling your route...unless you're stopping in Minneapolis. In that case, forget the previous, and enjoy the tour of South Dakota..

I'll also be heading east, but i want to dip my boots in the Pacific Ocean first.
Where are you planning to go to do that? North or south of the Bay area? Great roads up north, but you'll be kind of due east of San Francisco.

If we went from YFO over to the Pacific Ocean, then up to Mt Rainier, and then cruised through Glacier, Yellowstone and Rushmore on the way back to SC, would that be considered "headed east afterward" ?

That reminds me. Anybody got a recommendation for bear spray? I mean the aerosol kind. Because it wouldn't be legal to spray 'em with:

I'm leaving YFO to the north, but will turn East quickly at Tahoe. Planning to play along the way in central Nevada, Utah, Western Colorado, northern New Mexico, etc...

That sounds about the way I'm gonna head. Maybe take on Reno for a cheap motel if one exists.

Last time I went up that way Donner pass state park was about the same price as a downtown hotel.

I was up in Denali last year and had a lengthy discussion with a naturalist up there about bear spray. It would make for a great Saturday dinner discussion.I never bought any and went all over Alaska and the Yukon. <br />

You'll love that route. Did that last year on the wing as well.

Joe - that would be a good choice, IMO. The ride that way is not technical, but I really enjoyed the orchards in the Sacramento valley when my wife and I visited there some time ago.

I'm headed North East bright and early Sunday morning. I want to try and go the whole way from Mariposa to Spearfish, probably will go across on 50, then North to Salt Lake City and then a little slab to Rawlins before heading North East again to Spearfish. Got to get home for a day before I leave for D2D, Inuvik and Alaska on the Blue Beast!

Joe, I highly recommend 152 from Gilroy to Watsonville (hiway 1). A great mix of scenery, fresh asphalt and an epic view of the Monterey Bay coming down into watsonville. Lots of options from there based on your bucket list.

I road it yesterday to put some scuffing on my new P4s.

Let me know if you want more tips from a local.

HI, Duane - return to the East route sounds fun. My plan is not yet determined but I like your idea. Probably won't see you on the way to YFO. I'm leaving VA with a friend on Wednesday, May 24. Maybe we can ride together some on the return leg. -Glen

That is a good choice! If you are coming or going from Monterey to the south the Carmel Valley Road is a good choice too.
