The "Notorious P.I.G." which was at the Killboy store at Deals Gap but has relocated to a nearby town. (Forget where, found it online after I got back home.)

Joe's (formerly Oklahoma Joe's) in Kansas City, KS. Ribs. End of discussion.

(Edit: Just looked at the article, and see Joe's on there. I've had the Z-Man sandwich, and it's really good, but I've had sandwiches as good as, or close to as good as, the Z-Man. I have yet to have ribs as good as Joe's, though).

https://www.honeybearsbbq.com In PHX Honey Bears BBQ is every bit as good as Little Miss BBQ: HB's is Tennessee style and LMB is Texas style!

Mueller's has been my go-to for years. Trips to Houston always include "the long way" (+150 miles) to pass through Mueller's. Although those I trust rave about Austin's "Franklin's", I have yet to be tempted enough to stand on line for 3 hours just for lunch.

What about Smitty's Market in Lockhart, Black's BBQ in Lockhart, The Salt Lick in Dripping springs. As mentioned above Coopers in Llano. Joe's BBQ in Gilbert AZ, Gates in Kansas City..... I could go on and on. I like BBQ, could you tell?

Don't know if it is "the best" but worth a stop if you are in central Virginia (and not too far from Skyline Drive)

The Barbeque Exchange in downtown Gordonsville VA

Edit - just saw it was on the Thrillist from the initial post. Still a good spot.

Been to them all. I still go out of my way for Mueller's and not the others. The others are certainly above average though.

We had dinner last night at Podnahs in Portland. Rated best in Oregon and I couldn't argue that one bit. Mmmmmm.

Frustrating damn thread. I wouldn't walk a mile for a Camel, but I will ride a few hundred miles for a good reuben once in a while. Still, a list of BBQ joints all over the continent just sets a guy up for disappointment.

On the other hand, it might be a pretty darn good way to schedule bonus points for an Iron Butt Rally someday . . .

As with all lists, it was created to stir the pot. No one will ever agree with any "top x" list.

Given that, how much more will people disagree when it's a list of BBQ joints that include places in CA, OR, WA, and NY (and just about any northern states)?

I guess if it's worded as "best in a state". At least it would be different than a list of "BEST". In a way it's like some kids getting participation awards just for showing up.
