Sweet, I got to try working on HDR shots one of these days...

Great job, I was going to say that it looked processed...

What app to combine the images ?

Oh, mercy... Why didn't you warm me that you were going to post Bike Porn photos?

Boy oh boy, is Lucille ever gonna get ridden hard this afternoon.

...this bike takes good pictures.

That may be one of the best pictures of any motorcycle I've ever seen. Your skill with a camera is only surpassed by your ability to choose a proper replacement for your '05.

Black is the New Yellow

I fired up the Harbor Freight powdercoater over the weekend and started adding a few farkles judiciously to the new ride. I had an uncolored WynPro bracket that was a little loose and rattling. After cleaning up I shot two coats of black, a layer of gloss clear powder, and put some JB weld on the bottom to keep it from moving around.

I've long had a set of Top Gun bar ends I've always liked. They started life as black, they spent a few years as yellow, but coated them back to black.

And I have a set of Wild Bill brackets that also spent time as yellow, but now black. The pegs were black to begin with courtesy of a table of cheap stuff at Auburn's last Fall.

Next up are plans to powdercoat the clutch and brake levers (carefully masking to cover the business parts). Black and the red of the bike seem to go pretty well together.

You need some black Pazzos, Matt. And . . . it's refreshing to see your color sensibilities returned from the garishness of your Midas Muffler era. ;-p

I thought about it, but I'm saving for some other parts a little higher on my priority list. I just got done with powdercoating a spare brake and clutch from my Gen 1 (yes they fit folks) and pretty tickled with the results. I think they're going to hold up pretty well too.

Matt, you bitch. Your bike is either beautiful or you have a magic camera. I'm inclined to believe the former. And TMJ keeps trying to convince me to buy one. 'Course she's not the one who has to actually pay for it!

I really do think the '14 is the best looking Feej since the iconic '05. BBR, baby!

The last 4 shots have been an iPhone...so not a magic camera. I was, perhaps, close to buying an '07 many years ago...I liked that red too. But, I'm glad I waited until the 100 mph cruise and even cooler red.

Not all is perfect in '14ES land though. With a whopping 289 miles on the odometer I found a piece of metal debris in my rear tire because the steering felt all slow and funky. I extracted a nail I must have picked up Saturday and then stringed the tire. The rose is no longer perfect....at least for the tire. It now gets to spend the remainder of its Bridgestone life with a vulcanized wad of chewing gum in its ass.

Go ahead and buy one. Then I'll be forced to keep up with my neighbors. I'm being asked, "And why haven't you bought a '14 ES" at my home too. Me want. I live life vicariously through the local NERDS in RED and others such at in this thread. I'll gladly sell my 19.5 hp lawn tractor to make room in the garage ;)

If this is the full expanse of your problems, you will be lucky indeed. Just try to ride where the contractors haven't spread their roofing nails about in the future.

I know that you are close, Alan. But I fear that we may be too late for the lustrous red '14's. Seems they are all sold out this year and who knows what they will look like next. We snooze we lose, I suppose.

Know anyone that wants to buy a fine lookin' red Jeep Wrangler? ;)

That's the $64K question! I was resigned to either picking up a '14A or waiting until the '15ES and wonder if they were back to a one year color schedule like the '13 & '14 or more like the '08/'09 thing.

...then I just happened to call one of the largest volume sellers in my region and they happen to have an ES delivered in the crate the day before. Of course, this may all be prelude to me becoming one of those people that say the '14 is best of all the years (with special nod to the Bass Bote Blue 2 '05&'05.5 OG).

I will resist this urge......at least until after the first shock rebuild, the tick window expires, and/or ignition key wiring doesn't melt.

I've made no bones about it. The '14 ES is every bit as good as advertised, I want one, and I want it now. But discretion will be the better part of valor. 2-ish more years and I'll replace my big blue girl.

Good on 'ya, Iggy. Well done, indeed.

Clearly you know your way around a camera. I didn't realize the HDR function in the 5D was that good. Good depth of field too. And a beautiful bike just makes it just that much better. Damn, I was hoping not to fall in love with the gen III. I guess I'll have to start saving up.

And my first (or probably many) significant learning experience with my new bike. It seems my tried and true practice of changing rear tires (I ran over a nail at 500 miles and the hole was so big I couldn't get a plug to hold) is a bit deficient with this particular model and when you reassemble it all, and spin the wheel in first gear....it wants to make bad metal on metal noises. About 20 minutes of head scratching and disassembly later I realize '08 and later with the newer ABS ring have a special spacer that wants to fall out on your tire changer....and the ABS housing requires it to be in place to work.

Oh well, I also scuffed through the black powdercoat of the rim too. The bike is breaking in nicely...... :)
