In summer '11 my friend Allan and I did the Edelweiss High Alpine Tour. It was great but definitely a premium price. When we returned to Munich from that I picked up a rental from the big BMW store, rode to Andermatt, and did a week of day trips. There's ride report here (probably requires login).

Next time I'll DIY the entire thing. I'll also rent a smaller bike.

You look familiar to me. Did we ever ride together when I had my silver FZ1 (ULEWZ on the FZ1 forum also)?

What size bike would you rent next time?

Thanks,

Lew

Yep we were on one or two rides together back ~2006.

For the Edelweiss portion I was on a 1200 Multistrada and for the DIY a BMW 800 ST. Neither are all that large but with Edelweiss hauling the luggage I'd have preferred a supermoto. Lots of hairpins :) Hauling my own luggage something like my Versys 650 or an FZ-07 with a tail trunk would do. These days all I need are a tail trunk and space on the rear seat for a dry bag and I'm good for most trips.
