FJR gas mileage pulling a trailer

I pulled my trailer from Knoxville to Nashville and back and am a little disappointed in my mileage. My trailer weighs around 100lb and I packed it with about 80lb of camping equipment. My mileage dropped to 35 mpg. Is this fairly typical when towing a trailer?
