Could be ground "spider" but not as common in Gen II after 2008.  Any other odd electrical symptoms? Both signal indicators on, glove box latch not working, windshield drive not working, high beam indicator on etc.?

Certainly worth looking at but make sure the lamps are OK.  Do the high beams work?  If so, there is a pretty fair chance that BOTH low beam filaments are gone - they will sometimes go within hours of each other.  Happened to a friend of mine. Check fuses and relay too but the two bulbs may be separate?  (Can't remember)

Good luck.

Edit to add:  You are aware that the lights do not come on when the key is turned on?  Only after the engine is started...  They stay on after the engine is killed with sidestand or switch - until the key is turned off.

Bulbs tend to blow in sets. Weird, electrical engineers say they can't, but something makes the second on go pretty quickly if the first one goes, and you might ride it quite a while and be completely unaware that one bulb is blown.

The absolute FIRST thing to check when headlights don't work is the bulb.

Also, consider with future posts maybe using a more informative thread title. I almost didn't even look in here, and wouldn't have if not for the preview you get when hovering over a thread. Wow, a thread titled FJR1300 on an FJR forum! That must be full of VITAL information!!! Pretty easy to use something like "Headlights out/"
