FODS 2015 comes to southern WV

When: Thurs-Sun June 18-21, 2015

Where: Pipestem State Park Resort “year-round crown jewel of WV state parks”, Pipestem, WV
https://www.pipestemresort.com/

Lodging: Two lodges with motel-like rooms, RV and tent camping aplenty. Food and beverage, including gourmet dining, available on site. Unfortunately, cottage cabins are only available for rental by the week this time of year; but if you are up for a longer stay, they would be happy to help.

How: make your reservations online https://res.travlynx.com/bbe/page1.aspx?pcode=H8PRSP or call (304) 466-1800
Fuel and other food choices nearby.

What: Ride, Eat, Sleep, Repeat

Communal Grub: A Saturday evening meal and get together may be added to the works once an idea of how many attendees is better established.

Other Activities: The Park offers golf, horseback riding, hiking and more…things to do within the park https://www.pipestemresort.com/recreation.html.

Lots to do and see nearby. Ideas for alternative activities: WV Tourism https://www.wvtourism.com/default.aspx, New River Gorge Travel and Vacation Planning https://newrivergorgecvb.com/, Visit Southern WV https://visitwv.com/, Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau https://greenbrierwv.com/,

Riding: Routes range from pig trails to pure twisty delight and all road types in between; a little sumpin’ sumpin’ for everyone. These paths are only suggestions. Please use your best judgment, if a segment of any suggested route is not comfortable for you, plot a work around. Ride your own ride!

If it is rated trails you crave Burning Rock https://burningrockwv.com/ and Hatfield and McCoy Trails (Pocahontas and Pinnacle Trails) https://www.trailsheaven.com/ are within striking distance.

Everyone and all bikes are welcome; we have routes for you! Come join in the fun and have a good time in those WV hills (and maybe one or two western VA hills as well)!

Routes: Pending.

Don,

You'll have a great time...I'm sure Jim (spklbuk) will come through with a weekend of GREAT riding, whether it be on paved or unpaved routes. I've always had a great time following him around WV.

I don't have a dual sport bike...but I may show up anyway.

El Toro Jose, spklbuk Jim and Papa Chuy Viejo are strongly encouraging all FJR Jockeys to show up to ride the local twisties during the day. Then party hearty with the Dirt Donks at night, Fiesta-Baile-Arriba!

Throw on a set of TKC's on the FJR. Boom! Dual sportin' FJR!

(pack a come-along).
Bloody Canadians: You can't live with them and you can't live with them, eh!

Great location, been down that way more than a few times (paved roads mainly) and always had a blast. Lots of "unimproved" roads in the Gorge that would likely be interesting on a dual sport.

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Papa Chuy is sick and tired of riding through burnout Arizona Forests!

This 6/7 photo is almost at the end of the dirt ride, on FR403 just south of Alpine. This area is where the aspens are growing in abundance because it is also a severely burned area:

For all FJR riders wondering if attending FODS 2015 would have anything they'd be interested in. Video from a while back of typical mountain twisties just down the road from Pipestem.

Is that title right...2015?
Over a year out?
Yes, FODS is always a yearly FJR Forum event. Last FODS was held in April of this year at Moab, previous years have been Death Valley, Nevada Wilderness, etcetera! However, spklbuk Jim is having a FJRiders Event at Bluestone State Park this September for FJR's, not particularly dirt biking!

Venue at Bluestone State Park. Repeat it will be Bluestone in early Sept NOT Pipestem.

WHEN: We are planning a meet-and-ride at Bluestone State Park near Princeton, WV the weekend of Sept 5-7.

WHY: It has come to my attention that my friend and all around good guy Mr. El Toro Joe Fackelmann and I have one more thing in common than I knew about yesterday. We both have birthdays on the same weekend in early Sept. Joe on Sat 6th and Jim on Sun 7th. It sounded like the perfect time for me and Joe to go riding and invite everyone to come along.

So come join Joe and me and help us celebrate our birthdays. If you don’t like me and Joe enough to care, that's ok, just call it an opportunity to burn the last vestiges of tread off those tires that you were going to change before heading to Maggie Valley! Or see it a FODS 2015 prequel.

Everyone is welcome. Come join in the fun!

LODGING: We are gaging interest in reserving cottages (they are available for 2-night rental that time of year) and of course there is plenty of camping. If folks split a cabin, it works out to nearly the price of camping with way less to haul. OK, less camping gear to haul and more room to bring Joe’s presents

He prefers fine cigars and good bourbon!

ROUTES: Posted here: https://www.fjriders.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=1587; something for everyone whatever your choice of rides!

If you plan to attend, please post up (Joe needs to know how much room to leave in his saddlebags to take home his presents).

If you are interested in pitching in to rent a cabin(s), please speak up. We should reserve them ASAP.
