Gen 2 side vents: how to remove them?

How do you completely remove the adjustable side vents on a Gen II? I can open them a bit, but can’t seem to remove them from the larger side fairing.
Any tips?

I remove the fastener, swing the vents out and use a flat-bladed screwdriver to push on the hinge spring while gently lifting up on the vent. Careful not to stress the plastic too much or it will break the plastic bit that fits into the hinge spring. Easier to do than to explain.

There's a flat on the plastic hinge that makes it a bit easier to remove. Still, be careful as the plastic pops out of the metal hinge assembly.
