gutting the airman compressor

I know I saw a thread where an airman compressor was gutted to reduce the size of it so if could go underseat. If you cannot help me find that thread, can you tell me how to protect the gauge needle from damage while out of the case...or is a willing sacrafice?

Airpump Modification

I did the same thing that most others have done and just bought a $14.00 pump at WalMart and did a little surgery on it. Its pretty much self explanatory once you break the case apart.

Thanks. That was the thread I was looking for, but Airman puts out a different pump now. If I modify it to work, I might be industrious enough to post my solution.
